[OoC: This mission takes place approximately one month after all Intro threads. During that time all players have found their way here, or have been found by someone else and taken to safety. Any questions, shoot me a question in the discord. With this thread, we finally open things up to the modern timeline and can get into doing separate threads as well.] As the sun in the sky hit its highest point, one last sound of a hammer striking a nail could be heard sounding through the area. Not only had they managed to find a large amount of the remnants of the Starsquall and bring them to one centralized location, but they were able to recover a fair amount of equipment for needs such as housing in the process. An encampment made to house all the people from Earth had been made, and the last month had been spent setting everything up in an adequate way and establishing some semblance of order. Not only were the Initiative people here, but even refugees from other parts of this strange world had somehow made their way to the camp. Between all the work and learning and the pain of survival, Macht figured the people would need something to keep their spirits up.
A celebration had been planned and set up for, between himself and the leader of the Cduha, to give their people cause to be happy in these admittedly trying times. In the center of Terra Novus, many booths were set up between Initiative and Cduha people alike. At each of these booths were both foods native and from Earth, as well as various activities for the people to participate in should they choose to. Activities ranged from simple things as darts to as extravagant as mud wrestling with the natives. Over the PA system set up all throughout Terra Novus, music from Earth rang out, to give the people a better feeling of home.
He knew it wasn't going to fix everything, but Macht wanted to give the people something to look forward to. So, once everything was set up, he sent a small group of representatives to go throughout the territory and inform the people of Terra Novus that the celebration was beginning, as well as to go and welcome the representatives from Cduha. He himself made his way out to the center, where he'd wait for everyone to gather before he spoke to them.
"Friends, those from the Initiative and natives of the planet of Ayndr... we welcome you to try and have a day to forget the troubles we've endured the past month, and just live. Be happy. We've got food and refreshments all over the camp, as well as tons of activities you can partake in with your friends, or to get to know some others. I encourage you, don't just sleep in your room today - get out here, have some fun, meet people, and embrace this life we've got to live as long as we're here!"

Orion chose to start the celebration through checking in on the chieftain of the Cduha tribe, Laros. Orion had been the one to make first contact and the first to accept allied if not friendly terms on the Initiative's behalf. Additionally, the Cduha tribe had taught Orion a few inventive uses for his grasp over the Earth, as he himself had attempted to pass on subtle uses such as dust and sand, as he specialized in microkinesis, Awakening in the desert with his Gifts.
Orion was dressed in the clothes of the Cduha tribe, gifted to him for his work alongside them (and the whole not having a change of clothes on him when he crash landed). Over the past month he had developed fluency in the native language; immersion was a hell of a way to learn but it was extremely effective. He made his way past the booths to where Laros would be, mentally switching from speaking English to the language of this world. As he passed children and adults alike he would greet them kindly as they did him, having fond memories of working alongside these people for the time. Once he reached Laros he would greet him.
"And here I thought you were more aggressive and grumbling then this Laros. This little celebration is nice, for both my people and yours."

[/b] His words came with a strong grasp and pat of the red-head's shoulder before he had turned on his heels and gestured to their surroundings. "Help keep our minds off how dire this situation is for us, in some ways anyways." His left hand would lift before it swept through his ever darkening hair, seemingly a side effect of the new atmosphere they found themselves in. The hand dropped to rub at the hair on his chin before both hands smoothed out the shirt the Cduha had provided to him and found himself gazing into the crowd. [/ul] [/blockquote]

Hikari pinched the bridge of her nose as the intercom blared the announcement throughout the settlement, celebrations weren't her thing, not by a long shot. Though she found some small amount of appreciation towards Macht for putting this together, the people definitely needed something to raise their spirits. Finding that her thoughts were drifting off to the words of her teachers, she shook her head. Maybe this was her chance to be social? She had hardly talked to anyone in past years unless it was for a job.
The fact that they crash landed on an alien planet and now had to survive here was pretty cool though. She hopped off whatever makeshift bed that she had and made her way outside towards the celebration with a small smile on her face. She began by checking out the booths of food, she had eaten a few things that were native to this planet in the past month but not nearly enough. Hikari sat herself down underneath a tree with a plate full of food and began to enjoy the music playing over the speakers.
Maybe being here wouldn't be so bad.

While most people were probably excited to be reunited and celebrate with the many festivities that had been arranged, this togetherness only meant one thing to Sylvye: Work. Over the past month, most of the focus was simply giving the people housing and a means of living, but Sylvye wanted to get the remainder of the Starquall's systems rebooted and refreshed. Unfortunately, her process had been halted by two young individuals she was in the process of scolding.
"Listen very closely, because I'm not going to repeat myself." She said with an eyebrow twitching, "I gave you very specific instructions, did I not?" She paused to see the reactions she would get, then continued after a deep breath. "And despite having those instructions at hand, you both deliberately disregarded them." She pointed at the screen on the desk next to her. "Your careless coding created several meticulous errors that I have to go out of my way and debug before they corrupt the entire database." Raising a hand up to her head, she squeezed her brow. "You may not care about my job, but I do, and what you've done may take weeks to fix."
She sat back in her chair, enraged, but decided to refrain from saying anything else. "Dismissed." She said, turning back to her desk with a sigh.

Post by Kalliope on Feb 12, 2019 1:34:10 GMT
Kal, Valo, and Jilintor had all made it to Terra Novus safely, which was more than Kal could've ever asked for. She'd healed from her wounds well enough, and was fit to work where she could. She'd mostly been helping scavenge medical supplies and aiding any refugees that came to the encampment, whether they be Human or otherwise. When she wasn't helping establish some sort of clinic and helping any who were injured or sick, she spent her time trying to learn the native languages from the local children, as well as trying to teach them whatever English she could. She wasn't the best teacher, but she was patient and kind, and sometimes that was enough to make a difference. While she was by no means fluent in the languages of the free tribes, she knew just a little bit of some of them-- enough to roughly communicate, but hardly enough to hold a proper conversation. It was enough for the time being though, and she hoped she'd have the opportunity to learn more the more time she spent with the locals.
While it was a time for celebration, Kal couldn't find it in herself to celebrate.
She was almost out of her medication-- the clock was ticking.
A bottle and a half was a couple weeks worth of dosages, but eventually she'd run out. If she halved her prescription, she could make it last longer, but even that was a huge risk she wasn't very inclined to take. Her options were limited, though, and she needed to think of a viable solution to her dilemma.
Kal shook the bright orange bottle in her hand gently, her heart heavy with the realization that soon she'd have to confront her visions and nightmares again. She was seated with her back against the wall of a small alcove in the garden, the sounds of the festivities chiming nearby and the smell of food wafting through the air. This had become an area she frequented often, whether it was to check on the sprouts of the seeds they'd recently planted, or to simply find solitude, and anyone who was wise to her mannerisms would know to find her here. She wouldn't emerge from her hiding spot unless someone called on her or came and got her.

For someone who knew so much about Ayndr, the festivities were utterly foreign to Ji-ho. As a native he couldn't help but view the foreigners with an inquisitive nature - the sort of way one would approach a flighty animal, or.. observe a wrecked carriage. They were an anomaly to him, and even if his tribe regarded them as 'Chosen' he couldn't help but feel anxious surrounded by them. Even the addition of the Cduha did little to assuage the feeling of alienation within their group, though that wasn't exactly why he had remained an observer.
It was almost funny, honestly. That so many people could be in such a dire situation, yet there goal was to.. live, and 'be happy'. Ji-ho hadn't figured out if it was their own way of keeping everyone calm, or if they were simply that carefree. What kind of world had they come from? His eyes had been glued to the technology they'd brought initially, which lead him to believe they were from a far more technologically advanced civilization. This worried him, but it was a worry he had decided to keep to himself for the time being.
Ji-ho had ultimately decided to wander around, picking at one of the hems of his robe: A black cloak with a particularly striking pattern on the left side, indicative of the fact he wasn't one of them. It was the exclusive wear of what his tribe considered the "World Guide", which simultaneously marked him as 'the one with answers' and; specifically to his people, 'the one to avoid'. Anyone would be able to see him at some point or another as he paced around listlessly - staring at them from afar, staring at the technology they might be working with; no one was safe from his inquisitive, silent glare.
Well, maybe something would catch his attention.

Thankfully, Valo and Kalliope had saved Jilintor. They miraculously made it to Terra Novus, and their alien caretaker was tended to and survived his wounds. It was a huge concern taken off of his shoulders, and Valo was able to spend the next month with a relatively unclouded mind. While he spent what time he could with Kalliope and worked with her and Jilintor as much as he could, he spent a lot of his time heading out of the encampment. He was looking for other refugees, supplies, and anyone who may have needed help. Part of him hoped to have another encounter with the armored man who had shot Jilintor and almost killed Kalliope and himself, but from what he could tell, he never once got anywhere near any location this man might've been in. Likely for the best, despite his feelings on the matter.
It was time for celebration, and as Valo looked at Macht, he wondered how the two of them could go from high school kids who squabbled over dumb things to gang leaders to being on a whole new world trying to make the most out of their situation. Sometimes, he grew nostalgic for the days where a guy wanting to beat up high school kids was the most of their problems, but he had to admit the curious part of his brain (which was most of it) was rather excited to see what other worlds were like. It wasn't like he had to leave everyone he cared about in order to see these new horizons anyway.
Still, he had one worry. Kalliope.
She had been acting strange in recent weeks. While up close, she was her usual chipper, optimistic self, something just felt off. Even now, she wasn't celebrating with everyone else. He knew something had to be wrong, but he just wasn't sure what. And with that, he would head off around the encampment, keeping his eyes out to see if maybe she was just trying to socialize and make new friends.
Nothing.
Cassie and Bianca were where the food was, no surprise. He spotted Kaiser sprawled out on a bench, asleep with a book he likely wasn't even reading over his face. And he momentarily locked eyes with Alymira, who gave him a deathly glare as usual before going about her business. He was just glad he was never out scouting alongside her.
He closed his eyes and thought for a moment, before coming to the realization that there was a common place he hadn't thought to check yet. Valo would head towards the garden, more purpose in his step now that he was certain that was where she had to be. He made sure to dodge and weave around everyone he passed despite being in a hurry, not wanting to ruin someone's celebration day, before making it to the garden. An initial glance told him she wasn't around, but he was sure this had to be the place...
"Kalliope?" He'd call out, loud enough for his voice to resound over the whole garden. "Are you here?"
He grew increasingly worried by the moment.

Macht smiled as he saw Austin Huntsman approach, and with the one arm he had left, placed a hand on the other man's shoulder as well. "Yeah... crazy how when we met we were some stupid fuckin' kids talkin' about drugs and guns in the bathroom at 552. Now we're making sure hundreds of people survive on an alien planet no one on Earth has even heard of." A laugh escaped him, but the wonder in his voice and eyes was legitimate. He thought back to the simpler days, when him and Austin simply sought to be the strongest in the school, when he had all of his limbs. The reality that they were used to having their lives threatened on a daily basis, however, was sobering. "We've come a long way, brother. I'm gonna need you to help me keep these people in line down the road. But, for today, just... try and let loose, yeah?" He grinned, widely, but approaching from behind Austin he saw a somewhat familiar face; a woman, appearing a bit uncomfortable in these different surroundings. After a moment of silence, that grin only grew, and he'd cock his head in the woman's direction. "Someone wants to talk to you, I think. Meanwhile I gotta check up on a few people."Unless Austin stopped him, Macht would walk off toward the main building - or, the largest part of the Starsquall wreckage that they happened to build around - after fetching two plates of cake. The doors parted automatically as he approached, and his footsteps rang out through the mostly emptied halls while he trekked through. There was one person he was looking for in particular, and had she not made it obvious where she was by her shouting, he was going to show up to her office anyway. While Sylvye Harthe scolded her interns, Macht waited in the doorway, leaning against it with his one arm. Soon as they were dismissed, he would walk past them and place the two plates on her desk. "Give it a short break," he'd say, before pulling up a stool. "Take a moment, eat, and we'll fix that issue together. Tackle it from two fronts. How's that sound?"
Halani was uncertain about showing up to this, especially without the rest of her people knowing where she might be. The only one she'd told had been Minaako, who eventually insisted upon accompanying her, but even still she felt... odd. As a showing of goodwill, the Initiative folks had given her some Earth-style clothing, which she did wear, but she was constantly adjusting her sleeves and the neckline, pulling at them as though she were uncomfortable. Walking through Terra Novus, she and her friend felt like outsiders for the first time in their lives. There was only one reason she was here, however, so she sought him out quickly. As soon as her eyes fell on him, she looked a bit more at ease, and approached Austin Huntsman from behind. "Austin!" Halani called out, smiling. "Greeting. This is... large gather," she spoke in her broken English, still taking some time to learn it fully. Nervous laughter escaped her - at the moment, she simply sought to be free of the discomfort plaguing her.
Laros took a surprisingly large role in organizing this celebration, getting a great deal of his own people here to not only mingle, but help out as well. While he and the rest of the Cduha were dressed still in tribal attire, they showed no problems with mixing and interacting with their new neighbors. Laros bore a smile on his face, still hidden beneath wraps and his and his ornate headpiece, as Orion Smith approached. "Assumptions are deadly, Orion," Laros replied in perfect English, despite his strong accent. "This was needed for your people and my own. Perhaps other tribes will see this and be less wary of the aliens."

Sylvye looked up at the sounds of the plates colliding with her desk. It seems she had attracted the big man, Macht Stärke, himself, who was very quick to offer his assistance with her dilemma. She sat back in her chair, exchanging an annoyed glance with him. "That's thoughtful, but don't you have somewhere to be? If these festivities end poorly, you'll be held responsible. Besides, I can handle some fickle code. Just remind me to never trust someone with an important task again." She took a moment to pull her hair back, then turned back to her desk. The clearly frustrated woman projected her keyboard and began typing, assuming Macht would leave her in peace so she could get an effective start. Although starving, she decided to eat the cake later, or offer it to the next person to stroll by her.

Post by Edisto, the Galaxy Girl on Feb 12, 2019 22:14:36 GMT
Word of a celebration was quick to spread around Andyr, and Edisto was ecstatic, especially considering this one was thrown by Earthlings. She had interacted with many individuals of a variety of species before, but never an Earthling, and this was an opportunity she couldn't afford to pass up.
"Whoooo!" She cried as she flew around her destination, eventually stopping by a booth claiming to contain Earth foods. Slowly levitating to the ground, she flung herself inside, eyeballing everyone and everything. "I want this food. All of it!" She playfully demanded, doing a backflip to regain her levitation.
"Actually no, I just want this." She plucked a pastry looking thing from a table, flying out of the booth before anyone could likely say anything. "Mmmmm..." Her mouth watered as she vacuumed the pastry whole.

Orion chuckled in response to Laros's words. Despite how the big man acted, he was still far more reasonable than most would expect, especially to a stranger who fell from the sky.
"I suppose it helps a bit we're all human. I'm going to go wander a bit Laros. Good work with the English though."
That said Orion turned and wandered off towards the food stalls, chuckling as he watched many people from both the Institute and the locals eagerly sampling what was available. He blinked in surprise as he watched what appeared to be a small girl fly down into a booth before popping back out, pastry in hand. Orion decided to go greet her; she didn't seem to be a part of who anyone had interacted with and she certainly wasn't a member of Astraeus. Orion did have a good track record meeting new people here so far. He wandered up to her as she consumed the pastry in her hand, noting that she was still floating with no effort.
"I'm glad to see others from more than just the Cduha are enjoying themselves."

Post by Cereza Nova Grey on Feb 12, 2019 23:19:19 GMT
--- Even with a month passing by and what transpired before this settlement Cereza was none the happier. Her mind was stuck in a seemingly endless twilight. Ever since that message she checked back on the ship sometime after take off from the person that gave birth to her, had put her in a bad place mentally. On the ship she became a little reclusive or spent a lot of time in the gym. For the past month it wasn't that much different. She helped here and there just to honestly keep herself busy while taking in this new atmosphere. However for the most part she kept to herself mostly, almost hiding in some way. Where her psyche was she just didn't want to bother. It seemed so many if not everyone was just fine with it all. Accepted the fate. If Cereza never got that message it was possible she could've been a bit more accepting herself, unfortunately twisted fate had other plans. She was more reclusive so not much was often seen of her, like she avoided individuals like the plague. --- Old her wasn't one for brooding, current her found herself like that almost everyday. And where was the perfect brooding spots? Rooftops of course. One thing she did always enjoy was higher elevations. The wind unobstructed blowing against oneself. So amongst this sudden gesture of festivities Cereza found herself sitting on top at the edge of a structure. A hood covered her recently cut hair but wasn't pulled forward enough to truly block her face this time. Grey hues just scanned aimlessly at all below. So carefree they were. Meanwhile inside she was being tormented and saw no cure for it. Unless there was a way to communicate once again with the people back on Earth, she didn't see a way her mind could come at ease. Come to terms with much of anything. Beside her was a guitar she happened to find surprisingly intact in the wreckage. She had been fiddling with it, getting it properly tuned again finally - since she kept putting down so many times before. She didn't know why she kept it or why she brought it with her this day. She glanced over to it and after a few moments, scooped it up and positioned it in playing position against her lap. Melodically she touched the strings careful not to strum them. But like instinct or something in general just pulling at her, subconsciously she found herself strumming a tune - ironically it seemed appropriate to herself. Doubtful it was heard over the festivities from a distance, but should someone be in the same area it was possible to hear in faintly. The structure wasn't ridiculously high after all.

[/b] That was the truth, with the direction they had been running in while younger, he had half expected to land himself in jail, not on another planet entirely. It was nice to see Macht keeping himself busy and taking on the mantle of a leadership position. He was someone Austin would follow to the edge of the galaxy if he needed him to. "Of course Macht, anything you need. I'll do what I can. Just say the word- And don't forget to enjoy yourself also, you get that privilage as well." The last bit had been said as Macht turned to walk off. He would catch up with him later. In the mean time, Austin's gaze shifted in the direction his friend had motioned in. A small smile of his own found it's way to his face when they settled upon Halani. "Hey!" His left hand lifted in short wave as she approached. He would note her clothing and would give her a small nod. "It is a celebration after all." His right index finger would lift and he would clear his throat momentarily, before he spoke to her again. Austin had been practicing something, he was actually kind of proud of himself. "E's kmyt oui lysa. Famlusa du Terra Novus. He would give her another nod before stepping in and leaning close, using two fingers to grab at the material of her shirt. "Oui muug kuut eh uin lmudrac."His pronunciation was more than likely off, however he had been working with some of the locals and had started to feel like he was getting a grasp on the language, albeit still quite rough. Kalliope perked up at the sound of Valo's voice, her heart skipping a beat. She tucked her pill bottle into one of the inner pockets of her slightly oversized jacket (which may or may not belong to her boyfriend) before getting up and emerging from her hiding spot, brushing off her dress as she got up. The alcove itself was comprised of an empty space in a wall of stacked boxes and containers where some of the boxes had been removed for use and just... never put back. It was about six feet in height and wide enough to fit three people shoulder-to-shoulder. The back wall was covered in messy Cduhan writing (Kal suspected some of the kids had snuck in a couple times), along with the general 'So-and-So was here' and whatnot.
"Valo?" she called back softly, walking over to him with curious eyes, "My apologies-- I was just simply looking for a moment of solitude, considering..." she waved a hand vaguely in the direction of the nearby noises. Kal was back out in the light now, and Valo could see that she was wearing a simple periwinkle sundress she'd sewn from some fabric she'd found a couple weeks ago and a jacket that was suspiciously too big for something she'd normally wear (Kal wasn't entirely sure she'd told Valo she was stealing his jacket, but it's too late for that now). She felt like dressing cute for the first time since they'd come to the new world, but hadn't expected to be hit by a bad case of the blues right as the celebrations began.
"Why aren't you enjoying the festivities?" she inquired, fiddling with her fingers absentmindedly, "I suspected you'd have been spirited away by Cassie-- or perhaps someone else, rather-- by now."
