☽ Kalliope ☾ Played by: dot / skive Faceclaim: Rinnyleep, Dolia
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Weight and Height: 5'3 ; 100 lbs
Appearance: Kalliope (kə-LIE-ə-pee) is a petite young woman with a perpetual air of charm and intrigue wherever she goes. She's thin and lithe, with fair skin and pale eyes that betray her every thought and confession, having first say before she even opens her mouth. Her hair is short, silvery, and wavy, giving a charming bounce when she moves and walks. Her smile glows like a ray of sun, but there's always something unsettling or unreal about it. Her whole being seems unnatural, actually. Like some unholy matrimony has manifested itself into the form of a bright-eyed young woman and frolics in her skin like she's a flowery meadow amidst a sea of despair. It's this sense of otherworldliness and uncertainty about her that tends to make people feel odd around her. Like something is never quite right.
Whenever she's not required to be in uniform, she prefers simple, comfortable clothing like cute tank tops and high-waisted shorts, often accompanying the look with an over-sized cardigan.
People might notice she smells vaguely like vanilla, with a hint of nutmeg. Her voice is very lilted as if she always spoke in poetics, and there's some indistinguishable accent in there that's hard to miss but even harder to pinpoint its origin, as it's very subtle.
Occupation: Former Athena Operative
Personality: Quiet and reserved, Kalliope prefers to keep to herself most of the time. Her emotions and actions speak for her, but it's easy to deduce that she's incredibly kind-hearted and wouldn't hurt a fly if she could avoid it. She's obsessively poetic, speaking in flowery words and metaphors whenever something leaves her lips, and poetry happens to be one of her only vivid passions. Kal is insatiably curious, and that curiosity oftentimes gets the better of her, even if it means she's rather nosy or prone to eavesdropping. She needs an answer to every question, a key to every lock. She is determined in her resolve to solve whichever mysteries might be presented to her, never willing to leave something unanswered.
Despite her friendly and seemingly open demeanor, Kal is prone to secrecy, but it is largely negated by how easy it is to gain her trust. She doesn't enjoy hiding things, but sometimes even she recognizes it might be in her better interest to stay quiet.
Kal doesn't have many hobbies besides reading poetry and poking her nose where it doesn't belong. This can be attributed to the fact that when she's alone, particularly at night, she's lunged into a restless suffering of violent visions and nightmares, leading her to do whatever it might take to soothe her mind. The doctors at Athena would prescribe an alarming number of pills for her to take on a daily basis, under the guise that they'll keep her calm and agreeable throughout the day. Even now, she has never missed a dosage. In fact-- she tends to take more pills than what she should in order to keep her visions at bay, and to calm her nerves enough to sleep at night. Unfortunately, she may also exhausted during the day and her dependency on her medication might be slowly and softly killing her altogether, but she wouldn't dare stop. The nightmares are too intense, and she feels like the weight of her memories crush down on her. She thinks too deeply on the nature of her identity and reality. Take your meds and you'd feel better, they'd say. And she does.
Background: Kalliope's identity is a subject for debate, as not even she remembers everything. Or she does, and memories are warped and out of order, and inconsistent beyond comprehension. A few things are certain, though. Firstly, she knows Kalliope is not her real name, but she can't for the life of her remember what it is. A few names come to mind, but none seem to fit or make sense. Secondly, she knows that her earliest sensible memory was when she woke up in a hospital bed in an Athena facility underground. Athena, the organization that she'd worked for for as long as her memory takes her back-- which would only be a few months,-- constantly reminded her that her identity is not up for discussion and that she would do better to forget the things of the past, the horrors she'd seen. She wouldn't consider herself an amnesiac. She has her memories, they just... don't all fit the way they should. She has trouble piecing together what's real and what isn't, and wants more than anything to put together the fragmented shards of her mind so that she might fully recall that which has been hidden from her.
When her superiors caught wind of the Starbound Initiative, it was as a revelation was cast upon them like a blessing. They hurriedly sent Kal away, hoping she might be accepted into the program in a vague desire to keep her safe from whatever they were hiding from her. By getting Kal far away from Athena and their opposing organization, they could ensure that she'd be protected, and that she might be able to forget the past and look towards the future-- to the stars.
Skills and Weaknesses: + Rubber-boned. Kal's bones are actually bendable, to a certain degree, and this allows her to be more flexible on all accounts. + Optimistic. She sees the good in everyone, and always has a reason to smile. Her positive attitude lights up a room. + Stealthy. Her light footsteps and quiet demeanor make it easier for her to sneak around. And easier to eavesdrop on others.
- Naive. Her trusting nature and optimism make her oblivious to the harmful things of the world. Or she's just in a lot of denial. - Medication dependence. Without her meds, she won't be able to function. She'll be plunged into a catatonic trance-like state that is not exactly easy to come back from. - Flimsy bones. Being flexible and having bendy bones means that Kal isn't very strong and struggles to pick up anything even half her weight. While attempting to pick up heavy objects might not hurt her, she'll find that she just can't do it.
Gifts: os gladio: Kal is able to change the makeup of her bone structure on a whim, allowing her to unsheathe a sharp shard made of bone material from her radius-ulna, allowing it to act as a sort of blade. Unfortunately, the unsheathing and sheathing of this blade is rather painful, and the breaking of skin causes her to actively bleed while it's withdrawn, and she will continue to bleed until she's able to tend to the wound. [Level 1] +1 tier to Strength. Inflicts continuous bleeding.
os mobilis dissertus: Kal's already bendy bones are made even... bendier? Leads to some inhuman flexibility. Fun times. [Level 1] +1 tier to Agility.
