When Sagi and Selena awoke, it would be to heat and dehydration. The sun beat down harshly upon the, and the violent winds that crashed into their skin and clothes did little to aid them. In their mouths, they could taste the blood from their chapped lips, and the sand that flew onto their tongues as they laid unconscious. They would not be able to see further than two or three yards in front of themselves, as they appeared to be caught in a sandstorm of sorts. What they could see around them, was nothing but sand, and the wreckage of the starsquall that lined the dunes they were in. Pieces of the hull lay scattered around them.
Over the growing storm, they would hear the sound of a blaring horn, coming from the south.

With a violent start, Sagi awoke, too dazed by his conditions to worry about little things like sand in his mouth. Hair, blood, and sweat stained his face as he made attempt to hide it from the storm that pelted his skin. The conditions leading to this point were, in truth, a mystery to him - last he remembered, Selena and him were heading to bed in their cabin. Luckily, to his side, was the woman herself. With the hand not covering his face, Sagi began to shake her shoulder to wake her.
"Selena!" he shouted, to allow himself to be heard over the storm. He hoped she'd awaken, or he'd carry her to safety. In his current state it may be quite difficult, but the conditions here were not safe to stay in - and the blaring horn only caused him further concern.

| | all she ever wanted was to reach out
& touch another soul with not just her hands
but with her heart Sagi was the first to come to, and Selena's brows knit slightly and she slowly rolled her head as the shaking of her shoulder and her dearest friend's voice infiltrated her awakening consciousness. She struggled to flutter open her eyes; they felt stuck together, not unlike with a case of pink eye. Her entire body was sore, and hot, and her throat was parched, terribly so. Was... she sick? With everything she was feeling, it seemed the only logical conclusion. Raising a hand to her eyes, she rubbed at them and struggled out a weak response, "S... Sagi? I... wha-?"
But when she finally managed to open her eyes, she immediately saw blood and sand smeared over her hand and an ensuing storm surrounding her and her newfound lover. This wasn't the Starsquall. She wasn't sick. Immediately, her heart began to race as she started to look around, their new reality quickly dawning on her.
It managed to take nearly all of the strength that she had for that initial push, but the doctor managed to bring herself up into a sitting position. The hem of her skirt was tattered, one of her full-length sleeves was missing, and the left heel of her shoe was broken off, and parts of her white blouse were stained with blood. Not enough to be indicative of an obviously serious injury, but it was still startling nevertheless, increasingly so as Selena heard the sound of a horn in the distance. She was frightened, rightfully so, and it was apparent from her features.
Looking to Sagi and reaching out for his hand, she attempted to wet her lips and asked, with a light cough in-between, "Wher... What do we do?"
When it came to medical emergencies, few knew more than Selena. She was cool under that kind of pressure. But finding herself on an alien planet, in the middle of a sandstorm, and possible approaching incoming danger? She wasn't hysterical or in tears, although the latter seemed likely impossible given the surrounding dryness and their dehydration. But she was injured, disoriented, and shaken, and likely even more out of her element than her more combat and mission-oriented Institute friends and acquaintances. She looked to Sagi for guidance. Should they attempt to brave their way through the sandstorm and flee? Or should they take their chances with the unknown and head towards whatever peoples were incoming? Staying put hardly seemed like a choice. They had to do something. |

The longer they delayed, the more the harsh environment beat against their bodies, and the louder the blaring horn came to sound. For a few seconds at a time, a pathway seemed to reveal itself in the storm, opening up despite the whirling sands. Strange glows could be seen through the sands, only to be revealed as fire-tipped arrows as they came closer into view and were embedded in the ground near the two. They needed to move quickly.

Despite her weariness, instinct still reared its head when additional danger bombarded them. Stiffening upon sight of the first of the arrows heading their way, a force field surrounded the two of them, not only shielding them from the attacks but preventing the sandstorm from continuously battering them. Convenient. With her blue eyes finally free, or mostly, of sand, Selena was able to make out a path, and she squeezed Sagi's arm and hand.
"Ahead!" she whispered fervently, not without a cough, and the injured healer tugged, pushing them forward. Moving was certainly safer than sitting around, waiting to be struck by their would-be enemies. Whatever was beyond the path had to be better than what was currently facing them, right?
