Age:
27
Gender:
Female
Sexuality:
Demisexual
Weight and Height:
135lbs
5'10"/1.78m
Appearance:
Figure: 32"-24"-34" | 32C
Style: Elegant, mature & cute. Classy.
Taking predominately after her mother, Selena has a tall and slender figure with pale, porcelain skin. She has brown hair, in some lights having an auburn tint, that reaches down to her lower back with side-swept bangs and large, blue eyes. Her facial features consist of high cheekbones, rosy cheeks and lips, and slightly rounder cheeks, giving her a young and girlish appearance (think Alexis Bledel), despite her age. While of humble personality, Selena took her mother's sense of fashion and one of her first morning routines is to apply at minimum a natural makeup look. It is rare for her to be dressed in slacks, the doctor having an affinity for dresses and skirts/blouses with heels, having a deep love for classic styles. Audrey Hepburn has been a fashion icon and inspiration for both her and her mother.

Personality:
Kindhearted
Sweeter than apple pie, she's practically a cavity! Selena is a genuinely good person through and through without a single mean bone in her body. She deeply cares about the well-being of others, often above herself and even to her detriment. She is altruistic and has a compassionate nature. Selena is the kind of person who will nearly always lend a helping hand even if it means going out of her way to do so, flash a shy but sweet smile to warm another and perhaps give them even a small sense of comfort, offer compliments, profusely say please and thank you, and offer apologies, even when unnecessary. She is not trying to be a kiss-ass or obtain some sort of gain. It's inherent. Being nice is simply who she is and aiding and soothing others gives her a sense of purpose. Unfortunately, this also makes Selena a bit of a walking-doormat. While she is intelligent and intuitive enough to usually know when someone is taking advantage of her, Selena has tremendous difficulty saying no.
Shy
Despite her talent and wits, Selena has never been the most secure person. While she is a generally positive and upbeat person, she doesn't have the highest self-esteem. While she feels rejuvenated when interacting with others, particularly friends, and typically enjoys social gatherings, Selena is usually uncomfortable with being the center of attention and often feels as though she is awkward when socializing. The exception to this is when she dances. From an early age, Selena has been a bit demure and, at times, can even be skittish, prone to blushing and becoming tense and jittery upon intimacy with those she is not close to or around particularly boisterous and aggressive persons. She enjoys socializing, but, outside of work and helping others and her closest confidants, Selena is not always confident. (However, it should be noted that this does not relate to all tense situations. Selena has had extensive training with medical emergencies and can stay cool and take control.)
Devoted
From an early age, Selena has been a dedicated soul, to tasks and those in her life. She is incredibly hardworking and committed to her work and even more so to others. While she may not be one to defend herself, she will stand up for her friends and loved ones (or those in need.) Selena is not one to harm another person, physically or emotionally, as she strongly believes in pacifism, but she will step into the line of fire if it means saving someone from harm. Selena is self-sacrificing, and will do just about anything for those she cares about.
Empathetic
Selena has a strong emotional awareness and is very sensitive towards how others are feeling.
Intellectual
From an early age, Selena has shown a hunger for knowledge. There is scarcely, if ever, a time when the young doctor isn't seeking to learn something new, and she enjoys deep conversation and reflection.

Background:
Conception
Selena's parents met as they attended the same ballroom dance club. Céline Laurent was studying to become a veterinarian, whereas Alexander Sullivan was well into medical school. The two fell in love and, as they grew closer to one another, Céline confessed her abilities, worried she would be rejected. However, he wasn't phased and a year later they wed. They began their careers and, as they sought to start a family, the couple moved to Montana and purchased a country home, where Céline could tend to animals on their personal farm and start her own veterinarian practice. A few years into their marriage, Selena was born. She was a normal if not advanced baby and, by the time she was a toddler, she was already starting to read. After passing the toddler state, the little girl took interest in the work of her parents, following them closely nearly at all times, and they had little doubt that she would try to follow their footsteps.
Touched by an Angel
The Kumamoto-born Japanese neighbors of the Sullivans had a son around the same time as Selena and the two had become good friends. When Selena wasn't following her parents and learning everything she could from them or their books, she was playing with her friend. When she was five, the two were out in the woods between their family homes. The boy, in the hopes of showing off to his friend and little crush, started climbing one of their favorite trees and was trying to go higher than they ever had before. While he certainly had, the kid fell and sustained a serious head injury. It was then that Selena's powers ignited and, as their parents came running to the children, they discovered her in a trance-like state and the boy's injuries slowly mending. Within a few hours, he was completely healed, and Alexander ended up determining that if it hadn't of been for Selena, he would have likely died before reaching the distant hospital.
Suffering into Sainthood
When it came to Selena's power and schooling, her family was quite progressive. The neighbors, grateful for Selena saving the life of their son, never dared tell of her powers. If anything, the families grew closer. It wasn't long after the girl's power emerged that her homeschooling began. There had been some contemplation of allowing her to attend the local school with her friend, however her intellect was far advanced for her age and their home was the perfect environment to help develop her power. Her parents were advanced in their own right and were the perfect mentors for a child who sought their career fields, and their home was miles from others and there were numerous animals who needed tending to. Things went well. Selena was flourishing.
But by the time she turned eight, the idyllic home-life began to change. Selena began frequently falling ill until she had to be hospitalized. When she started to feel better and returned home, it wasn't long before she returned, often worse for wear. It became a pattern. While she kept on her studies and was always eager to advance and learn, her parents eventually surmised the reason for her bouts of illness: her powers. The more she used them, the sicker she became. Alexander stepped down as a physician and turned to clinical research, and he began to focus on trying to learn more about his daughter's abilities and the effects they had on her.
Despite the difficulties, Selena generally retained a positive attitude. If she ever started feeling down or began questioning herself, her friend would help to raise her spirits. He would remind her of what she sought to do. If she was in the hospital, he visited often. And he helped to make her feel normal when she would return home. She became far more devastated at the news he and his family were moving when they were around thirteen than any time she was admitted, but he reassured her they would keep in touch with a promise, in the form of a piece of jewelry and a kiss. Her first.
And as she grew older, her desire to help those in need only increased. She wouldn't let him down, her parents, and, most of all, herself.
Journey of the Archangel
By the time Selena was fifteen, she had graduated and, after a year of university and taking the mandatory requirements, left for medical school. While quite young, Selena had an exceptional work ethic and stayed on top of her studies. In essence, she was all work and no play. When Selena wasn't attending classes and actively studying, she was involved in community services. While she knew she had to keep her powers under wraps, she would do her best to use them to help those she saw suffering. Her years through medical school went quite smoothly, although she didn't make many if any friends because of her young age and because she was so captivated by her studies. It didn't particularly change after she graduated at twenty-three. She immediately took a job in a Seattle hospital and involved herself deeply into work. She was devoted and her superiors saw her unwavering motivation. Now that she was finally in the work she had desired since she had been a young girl, Selena had to ensure she was careful and balance herself. All she wanted was to work and help as much as she possibly could, but she also needed to avoid crashing her immune system as she did as a girl. After one particularly close call where she nearly died after trying to cure a young patient with a terminal illness, Selena ensured to take a closer look at her limits. She was devastated that she couldn't save every soul, and every death of a patient fell hard on her heart, but it made her all the more determined. Like her father, she began delving into research. What if she could replicate her abilities into technology? Something that wouldn't have her shortcomings? Imagine how many lives could be saved!
Set for the Stars
It was during the early years of her career that the superpower scandals started coming out. People began to talk about them. Some were being outed. Others were stepping forward. The Sullivan family couldn't help but worry. Where would this lead exactly? But in due time, there was news of the Starbound Initiative. They paid attention, curious where it would lead. Perhaps something good would come out of all of the attention. Perhaps mankind could truly progress. When Astraeus Institute was announced, Selena took a deep breath and quickly stepped forward into the limelight. If there was some way for her to help, she would, as she always strove to do. And so she nervously but willingly joined around when they first opened their doors.
And here she is still.
Gifts:
Primary Power
The Archangel Raphael
The Archangel Raphael was the patron saint of healing, curing blindness and disease, fixing wounds, washing away fear and hurt, soothing mental illness, and acted as counselor for broken hearts and loss when called upon. He was a protector and guide to those in need of his services, looking after others with due diligence.
Like Saint Raphael, Selena is a powerful and an all-encompassing healer, driven to aid others indiscriminately, developing and beginning to practice her power at the tender age of five. If there is still life within a biological organism, with the touch of her bare hands, Selena can increase (or decrease) the cell regeneration of the target and restore it to its optimal health. However, she cannot do this instantaneously; the more severe the condition of the patient, the longer it takes. And the more knowledge she has of her patient's condition, such as the locations and nature of the injuries, the more effective the healing. Her healing takes time and requires her full concentration, and, if the patient is in critical condition, there is no ensuring the accelerated regeneration would exceed the rate of the damage. She can still lose patients. Her healing excludes herself, and, in fact, the more often and intensely she uses her ability without rest, it takes an increasingly heavier toll on her immune system until the point of failure. While Selena has the capability to cure, say, stage 4 cancer, it requires an immense amount of time and power, and her immune system is guaranteed to crash. Despite technically being able to fix problems beyond current medical capabilities, it could very easily result in her death. And nearly has on multiple occasions. A fact that tears at her heart and she strives to do something about one day.
While she focuses primarily on physical damage, Selena also has empathic facilities. She can lessen grief and panic, and create an enveloping sensation of comfort to others. In more extreme cases, she can stabilize PTSD and other psychotic episodes. Like with her physical healing, this is more powerful with skin-on-skin contact, however she can have a lesser influence within a 25-30 ft. radius of her, and it doesn't necessarily have to be concentrated on a single individual, although the more she spreads out her empathy, the effectiveness decreases. Selena is also generally more sensitive towards how others are feeling and doesn't always have much control over how much she takes in. The healthier her mental well-being is, she can more easily block out the negative sensations of others. Someone would have to be feeling something very powerful for her to take notice without her active concentration on them. But if she is in a funk, Selena doesn't have much protection and she can become easily overwhelmed.
Physical healing: Her hands emit a warm, ivory glow and the entire surface of her eyes turn and glow white. Selena enters a trance-like state; removing the woman's contact early and before she herself exits her Archangel mode will result in her being severely disoriented and possibly losing consciousness.
Empathic: Selena's blue irises become luminous and more vibrant. While the more engaged and concentrated she becomes, the more powerful the effect, it doesn't have the same severe consequences and demands of the former.

Secondary
Force Field
When frightened and believed to be in danger, Selena is able to conjure an orb-shaped, energy-based force field around her person. It is 12 ft. in diameter with a 6 ft. radius from her body, and is translucent with a light pearl colouring. Having very little practice with her secondary ability and it developing later in her life, thus far it is purely reactionary and she has little control over it. While it can reflect bullets and most dangers temporarily, the more pressure and damage it takes, the harder it is to maintain the force field. It will eventually dissolve after her instinctual fear has settled or shatter if impacted with intense force.Statistics:
