Valo and Kalliope would both awaken in separate beds in a room, their bodies aching all over. They had been stripped of their clothes, and instead given plain white gowns to rest in. To the left of either bed was a stand, with the belongings from their pockets atop them, and beneath the stands were their old clothes, folded and cleaned. The two themselves, besides their gowns, had bandages along their limbs. After the crash landing here, it seemed they were found and taken care of, but by who, they did not yet know.
The room the two were in was a small one, with a single window between either bed and thick curtains covering it. Opposite the window was a wooden door, sealed. Beside that door, a small table, with cups and a pitcher of water. Aside from these things, there was nothing else.

Kalliope awoke with a start, shooting up only to wince at the pain in her limbs. Everything hurt... but she couldn't remember what had happened. She put a hand to her temple after she felt a sharp pain in her head, and noticed her limbs were bandaged. Having her arms bandaged was normal for her, but being almost covered in bandages was perhaps a new occurrence. The pain matched up, too, so she deduced that she must've gotten injured somehow.
One cursory glance and she knew right away that something wasn't right. This wasn't the institute, and it wasn't any place she recognized, so where was this? She hissed as she felt another sharp pain reverberate through her skull, and she was greeted by a horrifying vision of being electrically shocked by something.
Oh no, no, no...
She scrambled off the bed (unceremoniously falling flat on her back somewhere in the process) and rummaged through her belongings for a bright orange bottle of pills. She opened it with shaky hands and down two tablets before letting out an unsteady sigh. She'd had no idea how long she'd been out, and how long she'd gone without her medication, but she was grateful now that she'd had a bottle on her before... whatever had happened. She'd have to find more bottles eventually, but that was an issue she'd deal with later on.
Once she'd regained her composure, she noticed a figure in the bed beside the one she'd woken up in.
A closer look, and she recognized who its inhabitant was.
"Valo!" she exclaimed, making her way over to where her companion was, eyes bright like sunlight. She sat on the edge of the bed, putting two soft hands on his shoulders and gently stirring him awake, if he hadn't already fully awoken.

Valo stirred awake, his eyes opening slowly as if coming back from a trance. As his vision became clearer, the first thing he would see was Kalliope, though while it normally made him extremely happy, it was soon accompanied by a searing pain in... well, pretty much everywhere.
He winced, pushing himself up gently to sit up in the bed, every movement leading to sore aches and sharp pains. He couldn't remember much from before any of this... their ship had suddenly reached critical altitude, and he remembered warnings and sirens before everything went black. He took a look at his body, bandaged and bruised, before looking up at giving Kalliope a weak smile. From there, he looked around the room to see it was a place he couldn't recognize for the life of him, and if he had to guess, Kalliope wasn't any more knowledgeable than he.
"A-ah... Kal... do you know where we are?" He said, noting that it even hurt to talk. The room looked rather old-fashioned... ancient, even. There was water seemingly placed for them, but between the thick curtains on the window and the heavy looking door, it didn't seem the most inviting place to be. He would place a hand on Kalliope's gently, as if to reassure her, as he attempted to move the curtain to see if he could see out the window at all. Whatever was going on, he wanted to make sure she would be safe first and foremost.

Valo would indeed be able to see through the window as he moved the curtain, looking across to another house on the other side of a small walkway. People were walking through, heavily clothed and hiding their features as the snow beat down on them. As he looked through them, a curious set of green eyes looked toward him. Almost immediately as they did, though, the door to the room would open, made obvious by the sound of the lock turning and the wood scraping. A small, alien boy walked in after, clad in brown robes. He was green in skin, with only a single arm and a three-fingered hand at the end of it. The boy peeked inside, and wore a happy grin as he saw the two were up and about. "Wuiutuu wu!" he shouted, happily. "Huukawisoo!" He turned around and poured out two cups of water, then walked over to the two, balancing either cup on two of his fingers. "Eewusoo."

Kal shook her head at Valo's question. She didn't know where they were any better than he did.
She didn't take the opportunity to look outside when Valo had looked, but instead would be the first person to hear the door unlocking. She'd stand up straight, cautious, vigilant, under the uncertain circumstances, but the moment she'd gazed upon the alien boy, she was confronted with both great confusion, great fear, and great wonder. On one hand, she had trouble discerning what the boy was, and anyone's normal reaction would be to be afraid and alarmed at something they didn't understand. Kal was no exception. On the other hand, the boy seemed so endearing, and he put her worries at ease, in some odd way, that the fear and confusion was greatly negated. Things felt very surreal, almost like a dream, and she had to ponder very deeply on whether or not she was awake or if she was still passed out. Her heart was pounding hard enough for her to remember that this was somehow real.
She'd go to stand somewhere between Valo and the alien boy, watching the boy carefully but with kind, fascinated eyes as he poured two cups for them. His strange language granted her a sense of awe and wonder, and a peculiar curiosity was ignited within her.
Kal took both cups slowly, handing one to Valo while keeping her eyes trained on the boy. She didn't pay much attention to the cup itself yet, but instead knelt down in front of the boy and spoke.
"My name's Kal," she placed a palm to her chest, to indicate she was speaking about herself. "Kal." she repeated, giving a sunny smile.
"Thank you," she gave a short bow of her head. She didn't quite know what she was thanking him for yet, aside from the water, but she felt it was appropriate considering both she and Valo were alive and well, and their host gave an air of bizarrely amicable charm. While she remained cautious due to the mysterious circumstance she'd been placed in, she no longer felt tense or afraid of the alien boy before her.

Valo was surprised to see some people walking by, dressed curiously in heavier clothing. He tensed up a bit when he noticed the pair of eyes look in his direction, and yet...
The door started to open, and Valo's eyes darted around to look towards the door. His eyes widened as he saw... an alien? It looked small, and had a friendly grin on its face. It began to speak in a language he didn't understand, and started to pour water into the cups. Holy hell, he's actually seeing an alien with his own eyes. Decades of space research, and all it took was for the Director to yeet them into space and crash land elsewhere.
"Kal..." Valo began, attempting to hold a hand up to stop her from approaching the alien to be safe. But he knew her mind was made up. The young being handed the water to Kalliope, who then gave a cup to Valo. He took it, watching the situation curiously. Was this little guy the one who had saved them? Was it he who patched them up? Was this his home? He seemed really friendly, and Kal seemed to trust him. He would watch the two of them talk, realizing he should probably say something too.
"Uh..." He would point towards himself. "Valo." He said, and then would hold the cup up with a small smile. "Thank you."
He couldn't help but wonder if these people were all friendly, or if the rest of the initiative was here somewhere.

The boy giggled at the funny way these people sounded, but nodded as they said their names. "Kaaaaaal," he repeated, pointing at the woman. "Vaaalo?" he continued, pointing at the man. The names were far too close, he was bound to mix them up somehow. But he shrugged, and smiled, then placed his single hand to his chest. "Jilintor!" he said with the most massive of grins, proud of his name. The alien seemed excited to continue talking, but soon, a pounding sound could be heard from outside, on the front door. His eyes widened, and he swallowed a heavy knot in his throat.
"Puhee," Jilintor said, motioning to the two. He used his large hand to slide the window open, and then handed the two their belongings. He then quickly dashed to a closet, pulling out two cloaks - massive for humans, as they were meant for the boy's race, which seemed to be quite larger. With that, he looked to them, fear in his eyes. "Peeshuwuu!" he whispered, but with a tone that implied he'd yell if he could. Frantically, he pointed to the window with his stub of a right arm, and left the room. The two would only hear the sound of dragging wood, before alien chatter continued.
Shouting could be heard from the other room, the boy's voice and three other, unfamiliar ones. They were speaking a different language than the one the boy just had been, it seemed. Things were crashing, being thrown around, based on the sounds - the boy was protesting, as well. Suddenly, a loud BANG! could be heard, and the boy's voice was no more. The thrashing and ransacking of the building, however, continued.

"Jilintor," Kal tested the name on her tongue, chuckling at the boy's excitement. He was awfully spirited, and it warmed her heart to find such kindness amidst a strange situation. She quickly snapped into focus, though, when Jilintor became more frantic due to the sound coming from beyond the room. She was filled with concern and great confusion as she tried to discern what he was saying as he handed them their belongings and huge cloaks.
As he fled the room, Kal jumped into action. "I believe this might be our queue to abscond from this place," she spoke softly, the sadness and bewilderment in her voice betraying her hesitance. She'd make sure both she and Valo had all their belongings before she took one step onto the windowsill, ready to make a run for it.
But her heart quickly dropped to the floor as the sounds in the other room escalated and she heard a resound BANG!
"No..." she breathed, wide eyed and fearful, dropping her belongings as she ran for the door, limbs aching but heart pounding. She glanced at Valo and gave him a brief, worried look before opening the door and sprinting towards the source of the noise.

Valo smiled as the alien attempted to say their names, and he then proceeded- at least Valo assumed- to introduce himself.
""Jilintor..." Valo repeated after both Jilintor and Kalliope did. It was a unique, fanciful name. At the same time, it was exactly what he assumed an alien name would be. He guessed comic books and other media weren't too far off. On the other hand, he was glad this guy's name wasn't something like GERGOLONGOTH, DESTROYER OF WORLDS or anything to that effect.
It seemed, unfortunately, that not everything was as peaceful as Jilintor. A loud pounding could be heard, and their alien caretaker soon looked grim. He proceeded to hand them their things, and Valo worriedly stood up from the bed as he began to get dressed and geared up. The sounds in the other room soon escalated, and a loud BANG! could be heard before he no longer heard Jilintor's voice, and his heart sank.
He looked at Kalliope, worried, and she did exactly what he knew she would do. "Kal, wait! What if they're looking for us?" He called out after her, but he knew once her mind was set, there was no changing it. He grit his teeth and hurried out after her, ready to engage in whatever potential hostiles were on the other side. He hoped Jilintor was okay, but regardless of the circumstances, his first priority was Kalliope's safety.

When Kalliope opened the door, she would be met with a large wooden structure, presumably a bookshelf or something similar. Perhaps the dragging sound from before was Jilintor moving it in front of the door, so the others wouldn't find them. If she insisted on her charge, she would crash into it. Regardless, however, the others would hear the sound of the door opening, and begin speaking loudly in different languages. The ransacking got louder, and they moved to the case to get it out of the way.
Valo and Kalliope could escape through the window, or push the book case down, but it was clear that whoever waited on the other side was not friendly.

Kalliope was momentarily stunned as she saw that her way was blocked. This was... not part of her plan. She put a hand to the wooden structure, weighing her current options as the voices on the other side grew more aggressive. She backed away cautiously.
"They likely are... but we haven't committed any heinous acts against anyone here..." she trailed off, glancing between the door and the window. She didn't want Jilintor to suffer for helping them, but she also acknowledged that running head first into what was possibly a violent death would go against all the boy had done for them. She couldn't leave him to deal with whatever was going on alone, though, especially if he was the one who saved their lives. Kal owed a great debt to this boy, but her hands were tied on how to help him, if she even could. Maybe this threat was too dangerous for Kal and Valo to handle.
She noticed then that Valo had gotten changed into his gear, and Kal figured it'd be wise to do the same within the brief time they had to formulate a plan. She got changed into the gear she assumed she'd been wearing before she was injured, doing so with practiced speed and precision. She winced at the pain in her limbs, and paid better heed to the fact that she was till aching all over, trying her best not to disturb the bandages, either.
Kal found a first aid satchel near where her belongings had been kept, and recognized the Initiative's emblem stitched into the corner. She must've grabbed it before they knocked out, but she couldn't remember why. It had pretty standard stuff inside it, along with a few bottles of her own medication, but everything seemed haphazardly tossed in, as though it were done in a hurry. Nevertheless, she felt blessed now that she had it, and she put it on over her shoulder, tightening the strap a bit in case she and Valo had to sprint. It wouldn't do to have the satchel flying off her while they were running away from whatever-- whoever-- was looking for them. She then put on the cloak, but knew it would probably be too heavy and would just hinder her movement in the end. Still, she'd wear it for now. She could always ditch it later if she needed to.
She turned her attention back to more pressing matters, having formulated a plan which seemed like a viable solution.
"I believe I have a plan," she spoke, once again moving to escape through the window, but turning to look at Valo. "We sneak to the main entrance whilst the hostiles are unaware we've left, we catch them by surprise, and if Lady Luck looks favorably upon us, we can save our little green friend without sustaining further injury. Sound good?"
It wasn't a very sound plan, but it was all she could think of with the limited time they had. She'd then proceed to leave through the window, unsure of what quite to expect outside. If left unhindered and undeterred, she'd quietly move to wherever the entrance of the building was, cautious as to not alert the enemies, and keeping a watchful eye out for anything that might prove useful as an escape route should they need to run.

A barricade of wood blocked their way, and Valo realized that scraping noise from before must've been Jilintor covering the door for them. The little guy was trying hard to hide them, or buy them time, and chances seemed likely that he and Kalliope weren't welcome there. The two of them must've been an alien presence to the locals, and naturally, maybe they were scared of such an unknown factor.
The door opening must've alerted their presence to the hostiles, as the noises grew decidingly louder. While Kalliope got ready, Valo would shut the wooden door, grabbing one of the beds and carefully moving it up against the door in order to buy more time. Flashbacks of the time he was trapped in an Fear-infested Helios plagued his mind as he heard the noises get louder, but he brushed it out of his mind as he listened to Kalliope. Her plan had merit, but there was no saying what else they had to worry about once they left through that window.
Taking a deep breath and making sure he was covered properly, he would leave through the window after Kalliope, gently grabbing her hand as he ducked low and out of sight.
"Wait, Kal... remember the grocery store from the day we met?" Valo said, as if to tell her he had an idea that would keep them safer for now. His body would start to shake quickly as a blue energy emanated from him, and a doppelganger would rise up from out of him. "We don't even know if they're armed, so better safe than sorry." He whispered to her, as the doppelganger made its way to the ground of the building. Valo closed his eyes, intending to focus on everything the doppelganger saw. It would make its way to the front entrance, heading into the building. It would pick up the nearest debris, throwing it towards one of the aggressors if it came into view. From there, it would turn and start to sprint down the village unknowingly.
Valo had a couple of goals for this tactic. One was to get an idea of where they were. He intended to see what the hostiles were like. He also hoped to see Jilintor's condition and lure the enemy away so they could get him and get out.

They had to move quickly, as the moment they both left the window, they could hear the shelf blocking the doorway be broken apart. Wood splintered in every direction as it seemed to violently explode, the sound shocking the passersby. Those surrounding Valo and Kalliope looked to them curiously, but made no aggressive moments in the slightest. Instead, one boy stepped forward and lifted a hand out of his cloak - a hand similar to Jilintor's, with three large fingers - and pulled Kalliope's hood up so it covered more of her face. "Setuhee," the boy said quietly. "Jilintorna papasahee?" He was quiet, clearly inquisitive, but before he could do anything else he was pulled away by his parents. As he was, however, he tried to sneak a small sack into Kalliope's hand. If she'd take it, she'd find it was filled with a handful of strange coins - likely money in this area. Valo's doppelganger would get to the front in time to see several guards clad in the same armor, but with vastly different body types. Some stood tall enough that their shoulders brushed against the ceiling, others only barely four feet tall. Standing over Jilintor's body was one who was different from the others, about six feet in height. A man of great, and imposing stature, and a strange gun of sorts that did not seem to match the armor he was clad in. Jilintor stayed on the floor, face down, chest heaving as he struggled to breathe. He was bleeding somewhere, but Valo could not tell where from this position. When Valo's doppelganger made its attack, the man with the gun turned and instinctively fired at it. A bolt of pure blue energy would rip from the barrel, distorting the air around it as it aimed for the doppelganger's leg. "Kad res!" the man shouted, and the majority of the guards inside moved to go and chase. The leader, however, would pick Jilintor up by his robe and put the child over his shoulder. Muttering something in his foreign language, he began to walk in the opposite direction.

"Clever, clever," Kal would whisper with a smirk as she witnessed Valo send his doppelganger away. While her partner was occupied with that, however, her attention was turned to the robed boy that approached her. As his hand pulled her hood to obscure more of her face, she took it as a sign that it was probably for the best that she and Valo keep their faces covered-- she couldn't imagine some would be too keen about having foreign, strange-looking people in their home. The boy spoke, but Kal found herself unable to discern anything from it other than a word which she thought resembled Jilintor's name. Did this boy know him? His curious and friendly exterior certainly sparked hope that there would be other people who could help them should the need arise, and the nonchalance of most other passersby gave her confidence that while it was best her features stay obscured, she didn't have to worry too extensively about keeping their presence a secret, either. If anyone else was going to do something about the two strange figures, they probably would've done it already.
As the boy was whisked away by his parents, Kal took the small bag he'd handed her, giving him a thankful nod as they parted ways. Upon closer examination, she saw that the bag contained coins of some kind, which she perceived as some sort of currency. Due to her exchange with the boy, and keeping an eye on their immediate surroundings, she had no knowledge of what Valo had seen through his doppelganger's eyes. She heard another Bang! and some incomprehensible shouting, though, and snapped back into alert.
"Is everything alright? What does our predicament look like?" she inquired. She'd ask if Jilintor was okay, but she didn't think she had the heart to ask that kind of question for fear of the possible answer. She squeezed Valo's hand uncertainly, but she was ready to spring into action if need be.

Valo saw the armor-clad soldiers, a whole lot more than he expected, in the room. His eyes widened when he saw the bigger man, gun in hand, standing over a bleeding Jilintor. Every instinct took over to rush in and save him, but his doppelganger was so much weaker than he, despite how much safer it was to fight with it.
No sooner was the debris thrown than the one with the gun dispatch it, taking aim and firing at the doppelganger. Thankfully, as he was already starting to run once he threw the object, he avoided the blast. He took note of the weaponry however, and just how dangerous it may have been. This wasn't an ordinary foe, and these weapons looked far from conventional. The doppelganger would continue its sprint away, trying to lose its pursuers by turning a corner and dissipating back into nothingness, Valo no longer exerting his power in such a way. He only hoped they'd continue to look for their assailant on this wild goose chase as he took a deep breath, opening his eyes as he snapped back into reality with Kalliope.
"Jilintor... he's hurt bad." Valo said grimly. "Their leader took him, but his weapon... it's unlike anything I've ever seen before." He continued, seeing the bag in Kalliope's hand. He wasn't sure what they'd do with the coins yet, but his mind was focused on the current predicament. Should they run to safety, or risk saving their savior?
"The leader seemed to have split off from the others, I think I led them off anyway... for now, we need to lay low and see if we can find an opening to get Jilintor back." He said, trying to come up with a strategy as soon as he could. He knew Kalliope wouldn't want to abandon Jilintor, and if Valo was being honest, he knew he couldn't live with himself if he didn't try to save him.
Taking Kalliope's hand gently again, Valo would start to head along the other side of the building, keeping low and hiding wherever they could as he attempted to see where the leader was headed. Unless Kalliope had a better plan.
