[/b] Begrudgingly Austin would move toward the formation. It wasn't like he had much of a choice in the matter. She didn't seem all that bad, if anything Halani seemed more curious than anything else. He was curious himself, however he couldn't afford to show it much at the moment. He was far too out of his comfort zone at the moment. Once he reached it, Austin would climb inside and then settle himself down to rest for a moment. He would silently begin to rub at his sore limbs before wiping at the the blood on his forehead with his arm. Austin found himself thinking a lot in this moment of rest. What if he was stuck here forever? What if he never got to see Nathan again? Or any of the friends he had come to know and love? He would close his eyes for a moment and let out a deep breath. This really was a lot to take in. And now he was only in the company of a woman he couldn't even understand. His troubles only seemed to just begin. Hopefully things would get better, soon. With Austin hidden, Halani breathed a sigh of relief. Quickly, the woman moved over to the crater formed from the man's fist just moments ago and fell beside it. A bit of swift work with the dirt had her appearing dirtied and bruised. Even from below, Austin would be able to hear the army approach, and when they did, Halani called out to them in that same language he couldn't understand. Their chanting and shouting stopped, only for several voices to ring out in lively conversation.
Much time would pass before Austin finally heard the footsteps of the army once again, their staggered movements still causing light quakes in the ground from sheer numbers. No sooner than those footsteps grew distance did Halani appear, hanging from the formation she told Austin to hide under. "Lusa. Drao mayja," she spoke and beckoned to him with her hand, then pulled herself up once again. Once Austin was out of the hole, she'd take him back to the wreckage.
Back at the landing point, he would find much of the debris that had been scattered when he woke up was taken by the passing army to inspect at a later time. There were still things to be found, however, depending on what he might be looking for.

[/b] Austin would gesture to the wreckage of the ship for Halani. "Starsquall." He would then turn his head to face her again and then looked toward the sky, a si gre donger pointing upward. "We fell from the space." After he spoke, he would remain pointing upward and repeat one word. "Space."Austin honestly didn't know if that would answer any of the questions she might have previously answered. However, after he spoke he supposed get to work and check around the crater he had made on impact, to check for any equipment that had been scattered which would have been on his been person. From there, he would fan out and check the perimeter. He was also careful to look for anything remotely close to a body, or surviving crew members that might have slipped vision. [/ul] [/blockquote]

Halani simply watched as Austin looked around, keeping an eye on him but also wondering what he might be looking for. At the same time, she listened to their surroundings, to be sure none of her people were heading back this way. She wasn't confident she could explain herself if they found her with the target, at the crash, cooperating. When he spoke to grab her attention, Halani cocked a brow.
"Staahhhskwall?" she repeated, in an attempt to sound it out. The word was strange to her, but she understood what he was saying - at least, she believed she did. The vessel through which he came here, that must have been its name. Then, he pointed above, saying "space" where she thought he meant the sky, though perhaps it was close enough. Though the look on her face was one of disbelief, she did not doubt him. She simply doubted this was all real, that beings did come to her land from above.
During his immediate search, Austin would quickly find, hidden, both an initiative-issue blade and firearm. They were slightly damaged, and under a fair amount of dirt, but would be usable with little issue. Around the area, he would also be able to find various pieces of initiative armor - namely the helmet, gauntlets, and boots - hanging from the trees or also buried in the dirt, that he could wear if he so chose.
Before too long, from above, Austin would hear a strained voice call out, "C-captain..!" In surprise, Halani looked up, drawing her blades once more. Before she could take a step, however, a man would fall from the trees and upon his back in the dirt. He let out a strained groan and coughed up a fair amount of blood, but after a short struggle, he could make it to his feet. Using the tree behind him for support, he called out to Austin once more.
"C-captain Huntsman, you're alright!" he said, happily, but groaned out in disdain as he saw Halani. Without hesitation, he reached for the pistol holstered on his side and aimed it shakily toward her. "W-watch out, sir!"

[/b] For the first time since he had touched down on this unknown planet, Austin let out a chuckle as his hand found the blade he had been issued before the fall. The sheath was rough, the belt strap torn during the fall, however he would still be able to make use of it if needed. While he was crouched, he would tuck it in the back of his pants as he continued casing his surroundings. A dim glow caught his eye next. "Ohh baby, that's some real luck right there!" His hands would grab at some of the wreckage and pull it away, revealing a dirt covered, dinged revolver which he wanted little time picking up and turning over in his hands. It looked like it should be functional still, provided he cleaned it sometime soon. The dim glow from the battery cartridge indicated it was fully charged. It would prove invaluable if he saved it incase of an emergency. The entire time, he didn't pay too much attention to the woman behind him, he supposed he felt comfortable enough with her at this moment that he no longer had to worry about her. Austin would continue searching qnd come up with an assortment of gear, most of an Initiative suit, anyways. He would take a moment to grab the boots and begin to pull them on. Glancing toward Halani, he would speak. "Boots.", he would repeat the process calling out the name of each piece he put on as he did. Once he placed the helmet on his head, finger would slip underneath near his chin and press a hidden button. The visor, faceguard and top part of the helmet would retract and pull in, leaving the frame about his jaw and covering his ears. That blood-matted blonde hair of his would find freedom. Just after he finished equipping himself, Austin turned to face the woman that had helped him and that was when he heard a voice call out, in his native language. His head cocked to the side and out of his peripheral he would catch sight of Halani pull her blades instinctively. His left hand lifted toward her, trying to signal for her not to do anything rash. "It's alright, Halani.." He would speak as he turned to focus upon the man that came falling out of the tree. He recognized him from the Starsquall crew for sure and in all honesty, he was surprised he survived. "I'm fine. A little sore, but could be worse.."Austin was about to help him to his feet before he made it onto them without it. However things quickly shifted when he saw the woman and pulled out his pistol. "Whoa, whoa, whoa- Lower that right now!" His body shifted slightly, enough to shield her as he pivoted to fully face his fellow crew member. "She helped me.. Put that god damn thing back in its holster!" His tone was loud, commanding. Not like anything he had spoken to the girl behind him. [/ul] [/blockquote]

"Th-they're savages, sir!" The man shouted, a whirring sound being heard from his pistol as it charged up. He didn't fire yet, his grip still shaky but firm. "These people see us as invaders! The - the rest of my crew, they're all gone, they're... These BASTARDS took them and we need to get them back!" He wiped some sweat from his brow as he shouted, spit flying from his chapped lips as he did so. Halani knew nothing of what he said, however, and simply offered a confused stare in response.
"Drec uha ec rocdanelym, Austin," she said slowly and quietly, then began to return her blade to her side. Deliberately, her legs would spread and her hands would raise, palms facing out and open, to show she meant no harm. Sweat dripped down the side of her head, however, as she was uncertain of how things would continue.
"Listen to me, Captain, we have to find them. We have to make her tell us where they are. She's one of them! She'll know!"

[/b] Austin could understand what might be going through the guys head, but there was no way his plan, if he even had one, would work. "You think we're just going to stroll in wherever and just take our people back like that, huh? I didn't see how many of them there were, but I fuckin' heard an army.."As he spoke, his finger shifted slightly upon the revolver he held in his hands still. Austin wasn't about to let him kill Halani. If her people found out one omfrom Astraeus did it, that would likely spell doom for any who did actually survive. The last thing they needed was to be stranded on and planet and hunted by it's inhabitants, even if they were more primitive than the Astraeus crew. "I'm tellin' you right now, as an Astraeus Captain. Holster. The. Weapon."Austin's hazel eyes were locked upon the figure ahead of him, clearly he was distraught. Unhindged, which was dangerous here and now. Frankly, it was a risk he was willing to eliminate if he had to. He couldn't let him fuck this all up for everyone else, if there even was anyone else. If it looked like he would take a shot, Austin would react swiftly, lifting the revolver with his right while his left swept over the top as he cocked the hammer and pulled the trigger to release a single electrified bolt of energy from the barrel, aimed toward his mid-section. He hoped it wouldn't have to go that far.. [/ul] [/blockquote]

There was a long moment of silent, only stained by the whirring of the man's pistol in his shaky hand. After the tense period had passed, he lowered his gun to his holster, groaned, and spun on his heel to punch the tree behind him out of frustration. "God damn it!" he growled through gritted teeth, then turned back around to face Austin and Halani. "It's us or them, Captain. You'll see it sooner or later. I'll play along for now, but the moment she turns on us, I'm putting her in the dirt."
The man limped forward slowly, before seating himself on a rock. Halani looked between him and Austin with a confused expression. "Austin?" she started, not quite knowing how to continue. The language barrier posed enough of a problem, and she figured that was enough.
"I know at least... two others were alive, and they were taken by... I dunno who. A scouting party, maybe. They came just before that last group rode through. I only got away because..." his voice trailed off. That was something he wasn't going to continue, just now. "... anyway, we can't let any of ours be alone out here. It's a dangerous place."

[/b] After the words left his mouth, he would turn and step toward the other male as he settled himself down on the rock. "It'll be okay. We'll figure a way out to rescue all the survivors, but we can't just start killin' the natives. As far as I'm concerned, we're fuckin' trapped and we need them if we ever hope to go.. home." It hadn't really sunk in himself till he spoke those words. Would he ever make it back to Earth? Back to Nathan? He couldn't know for sure. "Sure as shit won't be able to happen if we have to fight to survive." He would finally tuck the revolver he held into it's holster at his right thigh. His hands dropping to his waist as he turned back around and moved to face Halani one again. He needed to figure out a way to communicate with her again. "Halani.. Starsquall came from Space." His hand pressed to his chest, before sweeping to point to his ally and the wreckage, before pointing up when he mentioned space. His hand would then move back and point against her. "Where does Halani come from?"He would look about and open his arms before shrugging questioningly. Austin wasn't sure if he would get through. He wasn't a language expert or teacher by any means. Even so, he had to try some way. [/ul] [/blockquote]

The man shrugged, scoffing, in response to Austin's words. It was obvious he was frightened, terrified of their current situation. He just handled it in a vastly different way than what Austin would. "Don't let that idealism get us all killed." Austin was shot one more cautionary glance, before the man only focused on tending to the wounds he'd sustained in the fall. Austin and Halani would be left home for the moment. After Austin spoke, Halani took a moment considering what he said. "Staskwal, space," she repeated, still struggling with the words. The gestures helped, and thankfully it didn't take too long for her to understand. "Halani, dra Nacecdyhla." She moved over to a tree, in which the bark was scratched and branded in a way, to bear the Nacedyhla Emblem. Perhaps this was a method of marking territory. The expression on Halani's face told what her mouth could not, that she wished it would be easier to talk. However, this was their situation, and she accepted that. "Dra lyhouh," she continued, speaking and pointing out to the cliff near the canyon they were previously at. Using her hands, she balled one fist, then used a finger from the other hand to show something breaking off of what the fist was to signify. While she had her fist going forward, she dragged her finger to the side, hoping Austin might understand what it meant

[/b] Austin would brush off the words of the man licking his wounds as he focused upon Halani, attempting to decipher what she herself was trying to tell him. So it would appear symbolism had its place in her culture as well. He would try and make a mental note of the picture she had pointed to, scarring the surface of a nearby tree along with the name she spoke. He would mutter it under his breath in attempt to commit it to memory, though he more than likely butchered the pronunciation. He couldn't be certain he understood. This was really difficult. Austin had grown up use to basically punching his way through all his problems and here and now that tried and true method wouldn't work. Thankfully, he had grown up a bit and wasn't nearly as much of a meat head as he was in his early years. His right hand lifted to scratch at his chin momentarily before he spoke. "Dra lyhouh.. Bring us there."Abysmal pronunciation aside, Austin once again pressed his hand to his chest and swept the other one back toward his ally, before he gestured toward the cliff area she had pointed today. "Friends." The large man once again gestured toward himself and his fellow subbordinate make a similar gesture to her in terms of of the fist and separation of his group. While difficult, he believed they could make this communication work for the time being. [/ul] [/blockquote]

Halani nodded, and took off, running back to the cliff from before. The man, Axel, let out a soft sigh, before getting to his feet and following along, knowing there was no way out of this. "Eyes peeled," he said, then continued limping forward. His hand was on his holster the whole time. When they got to the cliff, Halani would point down below, where a detachment of troops could be seen proceeded down the canyon below. Austin and Axel would be able to identify a large metal slab, perhaps a piece of the starsquall, embedded in the river - and then watch as that metal moved and struck the troops. "Fryd?!" Halani shouted, before jumping and sliding down the cliff, wanting to make it to her allies in time to help them. Austin and Axel could see the action unfold, before watching as a familiar face - that of Lexington - was taken and slammed to the ground from dozens of feet in the air. "Told you this wouldn't be peaceful!" Axel said, growling, and ran forward despite his injuries. [[Continue the thread here: starboundinitiative.boards.net/threads/recent/525]]
