Name: Katsumi Shinomori
Aliases: Shinigami, Hiroshi Saito (past), Shiori Watanabe (present)
Age: 21
Gender: Female
Height: 4'10"
Weight: 86 lbs
Description:
Appearance- Katsumi is short and underweight due to frequent and prolonged malnutrition during her childhood. Aside from her face, most of her body is covered in scars, especially her back, upper-arms, and legs. As such, she covers most of her body and is of a pale complexion as a result. Upon close inspection, it is evident that her prints have been burned away. While historically, she has donned boy's clothing, Katsumi has recently adopted women's wear and can typically be found in dark leggings with shorts or a skirt or slacks and long-sleeved and/or layered tops or sweaters. Her footwear is always sensible and with maneuverability and grip in mind. She keeps her hair long, her auburn locks reaching her mid-back, and often braided or in a pony-tail. Her bangs now frame her face instead of hiding it, but her gaze predominately stays averted and distant. There is a distinct melancholy there when she believes she is alone or is thinking to herself. Otherwise, they are cautious, if not cold. Upon obtaining her abilities, her dark brown eyes turned blue, and emit a pale glow upon utilizing her powers. Before she was captured by the Institute and after she escaped the organization that helped her find her powers, she frequently wore coloured contact lenses.
Personality- Despite her unrecorded, high kill count, Katsumi is rarely aggressive, with few exceptions typically triggered by her PTSD or from a vicious sense of self-preservation. Instead, she is exceptionally quiet and reserved, stemming from a background where speech and sounds could be harshly punished. Because of years of systematic abuse, sinister training, and coercion, Katsumi is deeply distrusting towards others. While she is aware there is goodness in the world, having a tentative soft spot for mothers and their children, most of her memories are traumatic and bleak. However, through patience and kindness, her trust can be earned, and for those select few who manage to do so, she is fiercely protective and loyal, and she will abandon her typically strong survival instincts and sacrifice herself if it means their safety. That being said, she is usually cautious and logical. While she has yet to become talkative in any real significant capacity, with some having believed she was mute, Katsumi will converse if needed. While her conversational skills have improved with her time with Sebastian and her previous captor and trainer, it is still a weak field, as there is still a deeply instilled fear and discomfort from her past, and she largely refrains if she can help it, preferring to listen and observe instead. As such, she is highly observant to detail and her environment. When Katsumi hasn't shut down or is in a powerful meditative state, a learned defense mechanism from her years of training, she tends to keep busy, with either surveillance, working out, cleaning, trap-building and maintaining, or tending to weapons.
History- There is little known about Katsumi. Medical records on file were consistent until she was around five or six. Her mother, Shiori Shinomori, was found violently killed, and her and her father disappeared. Her father, Eiichi Shinomori, who had been an upstanding citizen and police officer, is suspected to have at some point returned to his family, a renowned cartel and with a long history of assassins. While the precise number of murders between the two and eventually Katsumi, known in the criminal underground as the "Shinigami" and with a false identity as a boy named Hiroshi Saito, on her own is impossible to track, due to a lack of physical evidence, it is believed to be somewhere in the range of 200-500. Upon capture, Katsumi was eventually brought to 552 when she was 16-17, and updated records indicated a history of substantial physical abuse, malnutrition, and psychological trauma. It was perhaps this and predominately only unsubstantiated evidence that led to her enrollment instead of incarceration. Eiichi Shinomori was never found, but whispers indicate he has passed away, is incapacitated, or is in hiding.
It is known a Sebastian Ruthkowski lived with Katsumi, but a year into her enrollment she disappeared once again. Kidnapping is suspected but has yet to be confirmed, as indicated by additional scars implicating torture. Recently, Katsumi, under a new identity, and Sebastian were discovered in hiding together and, after some failed attempts, were eventually apprehended by the Institute. There was little doubt of Katsumi's real identity and, with the strong suspicions of the past and her recorded violence during capture, she was locked away in the Vault. Despite strong reservation and initial silence, she agreed to cooperate and join Squad Charon in exchange for the safety of her lover.
Gifts:
The Shinigami-
Spirit bow Embracing her alias as the Shinigami, the assassin has taken on certain ghostly attributes. One such is that she can manifest a bladed bow made of ectoplasm, or cold energy. Her ammo, as such, is virtually unlimited, as long as she is conscious, her bow is materialized, and she has not run out of stamina. Upon conjuring her weapon, her awareness increases. While a spirit arrow disappears upon collision, a strike spreads a chilling cold, in both flesh and any area it may have touched. It can be nearly, and sometimes altogether (depending on the person's constitution), paralyzing, at the very least grossly unpleasant; and a shot to a "kill zone" is lethal, like with any ordinary ammo.
Shadow Step For short periods of time, Katsumi is able to "ghost walk", or pass through tangible objects. She is still visible when she phases and it is only momentary; this is not a state she can sustain for extended periods. There is also danger of returning to her normal state while within the vicinity of an object, causing damage to her body. Those touching Katsumi can phase with her and she can cause individual extremities of hers to become intangible, but it is draining and extremely limited at her current level.
Wind Manipulation- Katsumi has the capability of manipulating the air around her or within sight. Still at stage one, she can only create strong gusts close to her person and minutely manipulate direction of her shots, or somewhat alter the course of possible incoming or outgoing objects or persons. It can also help moderately increase her jumps or leaps and boost her initial running speed, or generally aid her with acrobatics; activating it as such increases her agility by one letter grade during her action.
