★ Noah Ootari (Alexander) ★
Played by: Zenmon
Faceclaim: Karneval, Gareki
Gender: Male
Weight and Height: 5'9", 142 lbs
Appearance: Alexander is rather plain looking young man. Clothes you'd find in any bargain bin, shoes that you might find hanging from a telephone wire somewhere in the suburbs; nothing really stands out about him other than his sharp grey eyes, and the short dark brown mess of hair on his head. Despite looking plain, he does take care of himself relatively well and appears as respectable as your average young man would, even dressing up when the occasion calls for it.
Standing at a meager 5'9", Alex looks rather lanky given his weight and tendency to wear heavier looking clothes. He's actually relatively well built, all things considered, consisting mostly of well built lean muscle from years of training in a controlled environment built specifically to hone his body to compete with other Gifted children.
Things that stand out other than that would be the thick metal bracelet that's seemingly affixed to his right arm, and the sometimes unnatural movement of his eyes - which have an eerily accurate, sometimes jittery quality to their movement that people could easily attribute to a machine more than a human being; let alone what they look like when he uses his 'Gift'. His right arm is also far more 'firm' than his left.
Occupation: Cadet
Personality:
Bizarre: A complete heel turn from his otherwise normal appearance, Alexander comes across most of the time as a complete idiot. A 'Chuunibyou', someone who believes himself to be far more important than he actually is. He has delusions of grandeur about him saving the world, and stopping evil organizations- with no fear of voicing such things out to the public for fear of scorn or shame. Special powers, curses and gifts that put him above the rest; Indeed, he will earnestly say such things even in the most inappropriate, or stressful, of times in a given situation.
Resilient: If there's one thing Alexander has learned in life, it's how to become really annoying. Nothing seems to be able to keep this guy down on the outside, whether it be in a conversation or in a fist fight he'll keep coming until he himself is satisfied or his body shit's out on him. Maybe it's a by product of him getting the shit kicked out of him from the previous trait, who really knows?
Skillful: A necessity for the type of 'Gift' he has, Alexander wasn't always a naturally gifted kid. With years of training; though, he's picked up the skill set necessary to be proficient with almost any kind of weapon or task you through at him. As long as it's not completely foreign, of course - best to give him some time to practice, if that's the case.
Observant: While he's ignorant to proper tact, Alex is strangely observant. Always watching the world moving through his lens, there isn't much that he'll accidentally miss under normal circumstances.
Escapist: His thoughts are far from reality, and so is he. Refusing to acknowledge a great deal about himself has caused him to pursue the path of an 'escapist', someone who is more often than not always trying to find new and exciting ways to avoid thinking about the then and there, or the past he left behind. Not entirely toxic on its own, it's lead into perhaps his most troubling trait of them all.
Hedonistic: As befitting his ego, Alexander tends to do what makes him feel better first and foremost. Normally this just makes him incredibly difficult to read, often times moving on the whims of passing thoughts in order to get maximum happiness out of every second he can while running over everyone else in the process. The long term happiness is never a consideration as a result, and he's delved into a great number of bad things like alcohol and drugs in the past when pushed to his extremes.
Apathetic: Due to some reason or another, Noah is a rather distant; isolated and friendless person. He's often described as detached from the world around himself in this state, and has to make an extra effort in order to do anything 'normally'. Simply put, his natural personality is rather rotten.
Aimless: Despite being an intelligent young man, Noah has absolutely no goals of his own. He attends the Institute because 'it's mandatory', he does as he's told because 'that's what he supposed to do', and he actually has very little to no interest in most things other people might enjoy as hobbies. With no sense of his own direction, he simply floats about in the "current" he's been assigned while thinking about the "future".
Forgetful: It's not as if he can't remember things - Noah simple doesn't care enough to commit most things to memory if they're not mission critical. He has trouble putting names to faces he doesn't frequently see, and often times forgets things like dates and promises which often earns the scorn of those around him.
A sort of defensive mechanism, the real Alexander isn't quite as bright, cheery, motivated or heroic as he would lead you to believe. The stress placed on him growing up was incredible, and it molded him into this misshapen person he is today. At the most extreme of times this facade can drop away entirely- revealing Noah in his original, most raw form that isn't hidden behind layers upon layers of walls. This causes a notable shift in how he acts.
As a result of how he was raised, Noah's personality is far more selfish than you'd think. Both emotionally and socially stunted, he believes himself to truly be above those around him; who he often see's as simple tools to be used. This is because the Institute he was raised in was hell bent on creating a true success, and this meant instilling the notion that he had to be best, that he had to win, in almost every facet of his life. While this is typically buried beneath his ridiculous antics, much of the care he shows other people is faux in nature and it's hard to tell if he's truly sincere, or if he's simply paving the way for future favors.
When it comes down to it, he's not above or beyond the acts of manipulation you'd expect from a scumbag who stole your wallet on the street. He'd readily sacrifice a pawn to take a king, and will do what it take to achieve his ultimate goal.
Background:
An orphan child originating from a small orphanage called 'Aesop' in northern America, Alexander is of american-japanese descent and was fairly popular with the other children; often taking the leadership role when the parental figures were otherwise occupied. He was a curious kid, fond of the tales of fantasy that they were often read before bed time and grew up fantasizing and emulating the heroes of old that he came to admire.
It was a habit that he never really grew out of - though it certainly turned into more of a comedic process than a display of stoicism or heroics. Sounding like he was straight out of a bad kids superhero show, he often made remarks about the 'power that lay within him' and that his eyes could 'see through the lies and deception of the world around [him]'. He easily made the transition from dependable leader to class clown this way as he entered his teenage years, and the running gag never really stopped.
Turns out all his boasting wasn't for nothing, though! By the time he turned 17 he came across the startling realization that he was far from normal. Indeed, he did have powers that were unexplained, powers that could be used to save the world! It was a few years later that he ended up catching the attention of the ones who ran the initiative, which of course resulted in him being drafted into their program(s).
Maybe he was just a lucky kid full of hot air, who would eventually be kicked out once the higher ups realized what kind of idiot they'd brought into their super-sheep flock; but, Alex had every intention of proving that he had bite along with his bark. The initiative was the perfect place to test himself, and further his abilities as a Gifted individual.
Reality Check
Real name Noah Ootori, Noah was born via in-vitro fertilization somewhere in the northern parts of the United States of America from a Japanese surrogate mother. Only ever receiving a name from her, he was inducted into a program with other children within an institute where they underwent various compatibility testing for various synthetic transplants that utilized unapproved, experimental technology to artificially create gifted children.
A reckless attempt to speed up the increasing arms race for the stars, it caused a great many undocumented deaths. These children had neither citizenship nor any rights, and as a result were often pushed to their absolute limits as they grew up in efforts to quickly create a success story before attempting 'official' trials publicly. With the rate of failure nearing 85%; however, this never came to fruition despite all of their confidence.
Being one of the few who survived, Noah had long since learned how to deal/cope with the god awful situation he'd grown up in. Affixed with a metal bangle on his right arm, roughly three inches in width, he had successfully bonded with one of the synthetic prototypes and gained his own 'Gift' with the full modification of his eyes. It was around that time that he started deflecting the truth around him, and took the name 'Alexander' in place of Noah.
Then came 'The Starbound Initiative', quite possibly the most perfect testing grounds for their brand new faux-evolution of human beings. Taking place overseas in Melbourne, the sponsors of Noah felt like they could see the potential in their new advancements by catching the attention of the Initiative with their 'technologically assisted gifted' to fill their ranks.

Skills and Weaknesses:
As someone born without any Gifts, he's had to make up for the difference with his natural abilities and learned skill sets; his aptitude being limited only by the technology grafted to him and his naturally high athletic performance, which has been carefully honed since before Alex was even born. He's physically fit, and has been put through rigorous years of testing for both mental and physical prowess. While he's certainly not the best, he's well above the average human being that isn't gifted in any shape or form around his age.
That being said, Alexander almost never takes anyone seriously in a fight unless his life is on the line or he's seriously snapped. He has a tendency to believe himself to be the protagonist in the world he's created for himself, which can cause him to be blinded to the real truths around him. Since his Gifts are entirely involved with technology, there's numerous ways they can be disabled - and the fact that his primary tech has a mind of its own means that they have to be of one mind to cooperate properly. Within these, he's effectively got no gifts at all.
Gifts
Fomorian's Sight: With the incredible piece of technology- I mean, with this incredibly gift: Alex can use an incredibly complex series of calculations, incantations and manipulation factors housed within his synthetic, artificial eyes to replicate the abilities of actual Gifts:
Assimilate, Replicate (Level 1): At its base level, Alexander is able to copy a single power through contact with someone else temporarily; long as they are not too complicated or overly unique to the individual and of equal strength to the level of this gift. Aside from requiring physical contact, the ability taken is entirely random. He does not gain innate knowledge on how to use the ability either to its maximum capacity either and ultimately loses the ability after time, distance gained from the origin or when he uses any other ability other than the copied one.
Accelerated Sight (Level 1): Overclocking his 'Gift' allows Alex to see phenomenally well, allowing him to process information at much higher speeds than normally possible - sometimes giving the impression that they've slowed down, and allowing him to save precious seconds before that really mean thing is about to hit him really hard. Bumps his Perception up by one rank.
