Faceclaim: Original works by Sasoura
Age:17
Gender: Female
Weight and Height: 5'7"/~1.7m, 140lb/~64kg
Appearance:
Standing at an average height and weight for a girl her age, Ivy is considered to be physically in good if not great shape, partially thanks to the fact that she needs to keep her bio-core well-maintained with daily exercise. She generally wears glasses for regular low-intensity daily routines because they're just easier to use than contacts, but will put in contacts for exercise, missions or other physically intense activities without much complaint.
Ivy isn't really the sort to put too much thought into her day-to-day clothing choices, but still has certain choices in dress that recur constantly; her hairclip, for example. She favors a look somewhat inbetween casual and formal, which generally takes the form of pairing something like a button-up business shirt with a sweater or a plain pencil skirt with patterned knee-socks. Ivy herself jokes that this is supposed to make people feel 'less intimidated by her intelligence'.
Embedded into her chest is a gently glowing blue core that looks not unlike a very large marble, but is in fact a unique life-support device that keeps Ivy alive by taking the place of most of her cardiovascular system. It has a diameter of a little over one foot, though most of that is housed within Ivy's body. The core can emit enough light to dimly illuminate a small area in front of Ivy, just bright enough for her to see what's immediately in front of her.
Occupation:
Cadet/Amateur researcher and inventor
Personality:
To put things simply, Ivy is a very curious, cheery and energetic girl who has no trouble talking to new people and making new friends. Her outlook on life is both frustratingly complex and overwhelmingly simple; everything she doesn't immediately understand is filed away as a mystery, a perpetual conundrum to be solved at any cost. This includes people, objects, abstract concepts, as well as anything else that may come to her mind.
However, due to her Gifts having some...technical irregularities, as a result of their less-than-optimally-planned introduction into her body, her attention span is woefully short. As a result, Ivy will sometimes have trouble concentrating on imperative tasks or questions at hand, and often has lapses of attention at the worst of times with varying degrees of spontaneity. This can make her seem scatterbrained or ditzy at best and stubbornly inattentive at worst.
It's fortunate for her that she has the intellectual capability to be aware of this, otherwise she wouldn't have any motivation to finish anything she starts; if she gets started on a project she knows she has to finish quickly, that's exactly what she will do, because even she herself doesn't know when her next strange whim will strike.
Background:
Ivy was born as the only child of two brilliant scientists working on an international initiative, The [ITEM REDACTED] Project. Her mother, an American Harvard graduate, thought it prudent to name her in honor of the Ivy League, in hopes of her growing up to eventually follow in their academically-inclined footsteps, and her last name she took from her French father.
They were not disappointed; though the family of three were constantly globetrotting in the name of their initiative, Ivy never neglected her studies, even though she never remained at any academic institution for very long and was, in fact, home-schooled for most of her life. She proved to be an extremely intelligent young woman through her parents' unrelenting efforts, even beginning to participate in her parents' work from the tender age of just thirteen. What that work was, this document is legally obligated to omit, but just know it had something to do with bio-engineering and cybernetics.
Ivy herself even made leaps and bounds herself in regards to the initiative, designing, in particular, an advanced life-support bio-core prototype that would have become an integral part of her parents' research, had her world not gone to hell before she could perfect it.
As it is with many lofty initiatives that are said to benefit the entirety of mankind, sacrifices sometimes have to be made. And, sometimes, those sacrifices are those who have themselves participated in building up said initiatives; Ivy's family was not the first and nor the last to have fallen prey to international turmoil in their line of duty.
While on a supposedly brief stop at [LOCATION REDACTED], the Rochette family were sucked into a political struggle that involved their project, one that vehemently opposed their presence in the country. They were in the process of hurriedly fleeing the country, with Ivy's father arguing that they should appeal to abandon their position in the initiative after all this was over, they couldn't be involved in this dangerous game anym-
RAT-AT-TAT-TAT-TAT
Roaring gunfire as a black armored SUV drove past their taxi and shouts of 'LOOK OUT!' was the last thing Ivy could remember before waking up in the back of a landed helicarrier, half-conscious and feeling heavy stabbing pains in her chest. The situation, as she later discovered, had been this at the time.
Ivy's parents and the taxi driver had both been killed. The driver had been shot clean through the chest with an antipersonnel round, while her parents both expired instantly when the taxi slammed into a roadside barrier. Ivy herself, who had been sitting in the middle and down back, was relatively the least injured. However even, with the medical technology of her rescuers, she was considered a lost cause. Until shouts came from the assets recovery crew searching about in the wreckage of their taxi.
They had found her prototype. It was this strange glowing blue sphere or nothing.
The next awakening Ivy had was in the emergency ward of the Astraeus Institute's infirmary, with half her heart replaced by her own prototype, permanently. She couldn't remember much, but she knew what had happened. She had nothing left now; she was alone in the world. There was no other choice but to remain here, with these strange and imposing people who had saved her life.
After all, she had nothing else to return to.
Skills and Weaknesses:
+
Teen Prodigy: All her life, Ivy has been a big fish in a small pond, boasting a burgeoning intelligence comparable to some of the most successful figures in the field of worldwide technological development. Case in point, the very bio-core that keeps her alive to this day is of her own design, and even now she continues striving to make more progress in optimizing its already extraordinary design. However, now that she has been carted off to the Astraeus Institute, it might just be that she's got a few other geniuses to compete with...
Limitless Curiosity: Ivy's mentality is almost like that of a young child's, in that she wants to know a little something about everything. It doesn't matter how trivial or pivotal of a matter something is, if it isn't a fully understood concept, then Ivy will dedicate as much effort as she can into knowing all of its ins and outs. As such, she is effectively an ever-growing host of sometimes useful and sometimes pointless knowledge, be that for better or worse.
Inventor Extraordinaire: This is a rather self-explanatory one, considering her past and personality. Ivy is, by nature, an innovative and creative soul, and she loves to create new, exciting gadgets both for her amusement and convenience. Some of her inventions are even patented, though not very widely used (yet). It is definitely worth mentioning that her bio-core was also of her own design.
-
Volatile Core: ATTACK THE WEAK POINT FOR MASSIVE DAMAGE! Jokes aside, one glaring physical weakness of Ivy's is that her core is exposed to external damage, as it is only partially embedded into her chest. Its volatile and relatively fragile nature makes it extremely vulnerable to direct attacks, and since it is pretty much the only thing keeping her alive, any damage to it will be at least doubly as debilitating as damage to any other part of Ivy's body.
Faulty Attention-Span: Something didn't go quite as planned when her core was implanted, and to this day that one technical slip-up is still evident. Rogue bio-electrical currents generated by the core sometimes find their way up to Ivy's brain, giving her harmless shocks to various areas of her parietal lobe, which rapidly shifts her attention away from what she is currently doing. The effects can be anywhere from mildly frustrating to devastatingly impeding.
High Maintenance: A piece of machinery, no matter how advanced it might be, will always require maintenance. In Ivy's case, her bio-core is no different, and requires both good daily care and a fortnightly checkup to make sure nothing goes wrong or sends her into cardiac arrest. Neglecting or not being able to keep up this level of maintenance can have severe consequences on her health.
Gifts:
PRIMARY: CORE OVERDRIVE LV.1
Though her bio-core's primary function is to keep her alive and healthy, Ivy knows that there's more power in it, more potential in it than just a piece of fancy sparkly blue life-support.
Ivy's bio-core can switch to Overdrive Mode in the face of looming danger, the usual gentle blue glow being replaced with a blinding red light as the core drastically increases her physical attributes in a gambit to overwhelm the danger present. At any time during combat, Ivy can shift into Overdrive Mode to boost her stats by two grades universally. However, this isn't the best for her health; the core overheats quite easily as of now, and, since it isn't fully integrated into her bodily system yet, will cause severe internal damage with prolonged use.
Because of this, it has a built-in emergency overload switch that flips automatically when it detects that Ivy is under excessive exertion, knocking her out to prevent possible internal overheating. If Ivy exits Overdrive before the switch flips, she will be fully conscious but in a weakened state for the rest of combat. Thus, it is greatly in her favor to start and finish a fight quickly.
Current Overdrive side-effects:
One round : 1 point universal stat reduction for rest of thread.
Two rounds : 2 point universal stat reduction for rest of thread.
Three rounds : instant self-KO on the next posting round.
SECONDARY: ADAPTIVE ENHANCEMENT LV.1
A testament to both the wonders of modern technology and Ivy's own genius, her bio-core can push one attribute of Ivy's physical body beyond its limits for an extended period of time through a process similar to extremely accelerated temporary evolution, provided it has a suitable piece of reference material to attempt to imitate; a living, breathing foe whose attributes exceed Ivy's own.
However, as of now, the activation of this Gift this mostly constitutes of resisting damage for long enough until the core can analyse the enemy for their most prominent attribute so as to replicate it, which makes the practical application of this Gift difficult, for obvious reasons; attempting to enhance strength while by getting punched in the face with SS-grade force is a recipe for disaster.
Current A.E. status:
Raise one stat by one grade two rounds after entering direct combat, corresponding to current opponent's highest stat. If there are more than one highest stat, Ivy may choose which one to enhance, i.e.:
Ivy is fighting someone with the stats STR (A), AGI (D), END (S) and PER (B). She may activate this gift two rounds after entering combat with them, and since END is their highest stat, Ivy will gain a one-point boost to her END. Without Overdrive, he stats are now STR (B), AGI (B), END (A) and PER (B).
If the opponent's stats are instead STR (S), AGI (D), END (S) and PER (D), Ivy may choose between STR or END to boost, since they are both the highest stat.
Statistics:
Strength - B (S-->D)
Agility - B (S-->D)
Endurance - B (S-->D)
Perception - B (S-->D)
