Played by: Antonio Neto
Faceclaim: Hunter X Hunter, Illumi Zoldyck
Age:
18
Gender:
Male
Weight and Height:
6'1", 150 lbs.
Appearance:
Anthony is a tall and slim young man, with long black hair, which he treats with utmost care, making sure not to go out should his hair be even slightly disheveled. He has black eyes and slightly feminine facial features, which greatly complements his metrosexual fashion sense. He usually has an uninterested, calm look on his face, but when he can, he loves to look as smug as possible. His looks and thin frame makes it easy for people to mistake him for a girl from behind, despite his stature. He's slightly fit, due to his judo pratice, but his muscles are barely noticeable under his clothes, especially since they're barely there at all. His usual attire consists of a casual shirt and jeans, though he almost always has his jacket on.
Occupation:
Cadet/Amateur actor/Wannabe Doctor
Personality:
A calm, carefree and collected person, Anthony rarely has problems expressing himself. An average teen with relatively good grades whose hobby is telling jokes, Anthony's strength lies in his intellect. Once he is done analyzing a situation and his surroundings, he can easily develop an advantageous strategy. With an IQ of 138, he is a dedicated student, but can be quite dense and oblivious sometimes, especially when it comes to social interactions.
Despite his outward tranquilness, Anthony is quite easy to anger, especially when The Powers That Be decide to make his day worse. Due to his absurd impatience and aversion to wasting time, it's especially hard for him to work under pressure, although he's good at feigning composure. However, he is also very averse to violence, and tries to control his outbursts as much as possible.
Anthony greatly despises hypocrisy, seeing it as the worst flaw a person can have. He feels he ends up being a hypocrite sometimes, and hopes his time at the Astraeus Institute will help him outgrown this side of him, which he considers to be his greatest shame.
Anthony loves to attract attention, be it with his theatrics or speeches, and is known for striking poses out of nowhere even at the most inappropriate times, likely as a homage to his idol, David Bowie.
Although he tries to act diplomatically most of the time, his short temper usually makes it hard for him to work with uncooperative people and overall jerks. He also hates having to repeat himself, as he considers it a waste of time, although he's been trying to fix that. He is a very sensitive person, both physically and emotionally, but he tries his best not to show it. Due to that, however, he is quite easily startled. Anthony is also a person with very little "agency". That is, he's much more of a follower than a leader, being more used to giving support than being supported, which he believes he can change once he becomes a Captain.
Background:
Born in Brazil, Anthony had a relatively quiet life. Although his parents weren't the worst, they weren't the best either. They rarely talked with him, which made Anthony socially awkward for during childhood. As a result, he took some time to adapt to society, having difficulty even at starting conversations. He soon found out, however, that he really liked making people laugh, which he easily managed with his theatrics and dramatic antics. He had always considered himself more of a "number two", so to speak. He was pretty good at following orders, but that made him get used to not thinking for himself.
Since the day he was born, Anthony had a very frail body. He'd get sick frequently and had trouble breathing due to asthma. His skin was absurdly sensitive, which even caused him to cut himself with his sheets sometimes. All of this made him to become easily startled at the smallest signs of danger.
Anthony always felt like he had a sixth sense of sorts. When he stopped and focused on something, he was able to know how many people there were in a room without actually being in the room, and to sense when someone was nearby, even without hearing or seeing them. He never gave it much thought. It was an interesting ability, although not as interesting as the one he discovered next.
One day, on his way back home, he saw a man lying on the ground, unconscious bleeding. He quickly called an ambulance, but feared the man might not make it. Wishing he could help, he started shaking the man trying to get him to wake up. Suddenly, he felt weak and tired, while the man got up, a bit woozy from the blood loss, but very much alive and kicking. For some reason, the man felt better, and the bleeding seemed to stop, despite the cut on his chest still being fresh. The man thanked Anthony, who stayed with the man until the ambulance arrived, and said that he'd make a great doctor.
His family always wanted him to become a doctor, a task which he gladly accepted as a desire of his own. Even after the announcement of the Starbound Initiative, he always thought he was much more fit for a quiet, common life.
During one of his classes, a teacher of his, knowing about his love for literature and acting, asked him about what he truly wanted to be in the future. For the first time in his life, the automated "doctor" answer didn't came, and he started to ponder about what he really wanted for himself.
It was then that the Astraeus Institute approached him and his family, saying he was selected for the program. While it didn't help with his predicament, it did help him find a place which might be just what he needed. Once he learned about how it was a place for people to grow, the solution made itself clear. He would enroll at the Institute, and there he would learn how to be his own person.
His whole family was quite against the idea. His fate, however, was already clear to him, and he felt no regret at ignoring his mother's pleas for him to turn back as he boarded the plane. For the first time in his life, he felt like he truly decided something for himself. For his own sake.
Once he got to the Institute, Anthony felt alone. Scared. Lost. And yet, he felt like he could take on the world. Taking that feeling as a sign of personal improvement to come, he started walking towards one of the buildings, seeking neither fame, nor power, but the person who he really is.
Skills and Weaknesses:
+Fighting Style: With quick and erratic movements, Anthony prefers fighting at close quarters, using a hit and run tactic to wear off his opponents. Due to the speed of his attacks, he rarely delivers strong punches and kicks, relying on the accumulated damage of each attack.
He usually aims for the opponent's arms and legs, trying to diminish the damage he may receive in the event that his speed isn't enough to dodge. Knowing that this tactic won't work against someone who can withstand his blows, he prefers to simply run away and fight another day.
He took judo classes while in Brazil, which is more focused on throws and helps him use his opponent's own strength against him. Which is good, since Anthony himself has almost no strength.
+ Resourceful: Due to not being a good fighter overall, Anthony usually has to get creative on how to use the environment to his advantage during a fight. With his intelligence, once he analyzes a given situation, he'll most likely come up with an advantageous strategy
+ Fast: What Anthony lacks in strength, he makes up for in speed. He was the best track runner at his old school, and it's a skill that usually comes in handy in life-or-death situations. Not only is he able to do complex acrobatics and maneuvers, Anthony's sheer speed is usually more than enough for him to dodge most attacks while attacking his enemy.
+ Determined: Once Anthony is motivated to do something, he'll only stop when it's done. Or when he feels there's no way to do it. Whatever comes first. Still, he's not one to give up easily, specially if he feels like it's something he truly has to achieve.
- Fragile: Anthony is pretty much glass given a human form. While he can withstand some punches from normal humans and still fight back, a few well placed attacks from anything above that is more than enough to knock him out cold. Due to this, he tries not to risk himself too much in a fight.
- Unsound Mind: Due to his short temper and submissive personality, Anthony is an easy target to people who know makes him tick. Although he is currently trying to fix his anger issues, he's still far from making much progress.
- Lazy: Despite his impressive determination, actually finding something that motivated Anthony is quite a task. He prefers to spend his time writing or playing Video Games than studying, which makes him seem like a slacker. Unlike the anger issues, he has no problem with being lazy.
Gifts:
Primary - Life On Mars:
Level 1: Anthony is able to imbue people with his own life energy. That is to say, anyone affected by this ability will feel slighty revitalized, should they be tired beforehand. In small quantities, the target will feel a bit better and have smaller wounds healed. In larger quantities, however, they will feel faster and stronger, at the cost of being less aware their surroundings, due to the sudden burst of energy putting their bodies and minds out of synch. This causes their Strenght and Agility to go up one grade, while their Perception goes down one grade. Due to his frailty, the usage this abilty debilitates Anthony much quicker. The Gift's "cooldown" depends on the amout of energy given, which can go from five minutes to a whole hour. If used on animals, it has the same effects as on people. If used on plants, it can make them grow faster. However, it seems to have no effects on inanimate objects.
Secondary- Pneumolocation:
Level 1: If Anthony stops to focus and take deep breaths, he can feel the life energy emanating from other people around him, which serves as a kind of spiritual echolocation. However, it has a range of only twenty yards, and the ability stops immediately if he loses focus.
