Appearance
Persona
Persie is a petite young Chinese American woman with bleach blonde hair cut with blunt bangs that she usually keeps styled in messy space buns. She has an almost feline like appearance with her sharp canines and yellow eyes. The girl has a contagiously cheerful aura about her and is nearly almost smiling, except for when she’s alone or deep in thought. Her gaze can be rather intense and almost seductive most of the time, making many people she makes prolonged eye contact with a little uncomfortable.
Persie's typical style is usually either lolita or punk, sometime’s a mixture of both. She almost constantly has bandages speckling her body and wrapped on her arms and legs in certain places suggesting a rather rough lifestyle in spite of her girlish look.
Persona
Persie has an odd fascination with love as a concept due to feeling as though she's never truly experienced it herself. She's messed up in so many ways, and due to a number of factors she has very little empathetic capacity and almost no value for human life. In spite of this, she's obsessed with the idea of loving people and being loved and often gets frustrated that she can't experience it. She's chased it in many different ways and on many occasions, only to have people tell her it's not love. In turn she's constantly asking herself the question "If that's not love that what the fuck is it?"
Though she has very little emotional capacity, she continually tries to force herself into it which is never genuine and a bit counter productive. All she ends up feeling is anger, isolation, and bitterness towards the one's that she feels created her. Rather than feeling guilt, regret, or sadness, she typically just feels anger or the need to hurt someone after another failed pursuit of love. Persie is pretty masochistic and gets giggly or even laughs hysterically on most occasions when she's injured. She also has the mouth of a sailor and high libido, so she makes a lot of people uncomfortable. It depends on the situation and her mood, but she can be extremely flirtatious with both men and women.
On the surface, Persie is extremely cheerful and is almost always smiling. She loves cute things, but also has a strange affinity for dark and violent things. If you only talk to her for a couple minutes or just know her on surface level she might just seem normal. Almost. She's not necessarily mean and likes to make 'friends' and often showers other girls in compliments. For her, friends are just people she can have fun with and talk to comfortably. She views people almost like characters from a novel. She doesn't have any real emotional attachment to people and finds them extremely interesting from an objective stand point. One of her favorite things is observing people till she has a good understanding of they think, and she often utilizing odd methods to learn more about people.
Persie will take an excuse to get into a fight, even if the odds of her winning are slim. She doesn't care too much for asserting dominance and simply finds joy in causing and receiving pain, so fights are something she enjoys regardless of how they turn out.
While she has nearly know capacity for love or empathy, sometimes she feels like she's right at the wall separating her from it, and all she has to do is break it down. The times she becomes acutely aware of her emotional numbness she sits and stares into space for hours either broiling in anger or feeling absolutely nothing. It's times like those that she feels very little self worth and wishes someone would just snuff her out.
Background
The client who is identified here as Jiang Ying Yue, is a sixteen year old Chinese American female. She came in to counseling casually dressed with her dark hair well groomed, and had bandages wrapped all over her arms. This is Ying Yue’s first time to counseling. She was initially experiencing high levels of aggression, anger, and isolation due to her early childhood according to her adoptive parents. They also commented that she seems to suffer from an inability to empathize. Symptoms persisted for several months after the adoption and are therefore affecting her sleeping, eating, and behavior patterns. Ying Yue was subjected to abuse and a cultic upbringing till the age of sixteen. She was then adopted by a young couple with no children who are planning to enroll her in a catholic school. Ying Yue did appear to be angry and guarded during the intake session. The following is part of a transcription of the recording of Ying Yue's first session.
C=Counselor Y=Ying Yue
C: How are you sleeping these days?
Y: Better. Actually— at first I was. Then Mr. and Mrs. Mayfair said they were going to put me in a catholic school. What even is a catholic school? I don’t want to go to school either way.
C: I don’t imagine it’s much different from a normal school, just centered around catholic principles and beliefs. (pause) You call your parents Mr. and Mrs. Mayfair?
Y: (brief laugh) They’re hardly my parents. I haven’t known them long.
C: Ah...
Y: I just haven’t even been to a regular school. I don’t connect to people well. They won’t like me. I won’t like them.
C: I see. Is there anyone who you feel really understands you and is close to you?
Y. No.
C: Why’s that?
Y: I’m... I'm filled with sin and demons are rotting my insides. I can’t help it though.
C: Why do you say that?
Y: It's what The Watcher told me.
C: Who's The Watcher?
Y: He doesn't like it when I talk about him--sorry, I shouldn't have brought it up.
C: Perhaps you can tell me about him later?
Y: Probably not.
C: That's fine, I'm not here to pressure you. So you feel you aren't close to people because you're inherently bad somehow?
Y: I guess. I always want attention and I want to be adored… I want to love other people but I can’t feel it.
C: You can’t feel it?
Y: Yeah. I can’t feel anything. I just feel angry and happy sometimes when I’m having fun. I cry out of self pity or when I’m scared. But I can’t care for people the way Mr. and Mrs. Mayfair care for each other… it’s weird. I can’t really be sad about it, just frustrated. It’s like I have a missing gear or something… I can’t explain it. But it’s their fault. The Star Thieves.
C: Were they the ones you lived with before Mr. and Mrs. Mayfair?
Y: Yes. They did this. (client gestures to bandages on arms) And a lot of other things.
C: What did they do to your arms?
Y: I’ll show you.
C: That’s not necessary, don’t hurt yourself.
Y: (client removes bandages from one arm in spite of counselor’s protests)
C: (pause) Dear me… I’ll get someone to help you re-bandage.
Y: No. You’re just scared to look at it. Don’t be scared.
C: Miss Jiang…
♠ ❀ ♠
Jiang Ying Yue was born in China, but her parents knew they couldn’t keep her since she pushed the limit of how many children they could take care of. Ying Yue was sent to the United States to find a stable family that could take her in, but fell into the hands of a group called the Celestine Quorum. Another name they were known by was the Star Thieves. It was clandestine cult with twenty children to a room, no outside outside influences and no contact beyond the compound. This was the first sixteen years of her life.
It was a doomsday cult of sorts, the aim being to prepare its members for the end times and punish people that disrespected them and their gods. The leaders were known as The Astronomers, and had their members worship gods from many different religions. After some time, they decided that even the devil, demons, and deities of death deserved worship, since they were also responsible for the end of the universe.
When Ying Yue’s gifts surfaced, they began using them in rituals. Over time, her gift became intwined with one of their main rituals which they called The Augury. In the situation that an enemy disrespected their gods or posed a threat to the Celestine Quorum, an agent would obtain a sample of the offender's blood, force Ying Yue to consume it and have her stab or cut herself in certain areas. In this way, they were able to kill their enemies without there being any proof of it having to do with them. Immediate medical attention was always provided to Ying Yue so that they could use her again. The ritual was important to the group, but they tried to use it sparingly so they wouldn’t lose their tool.
When her gifts manifested, Ying Yue also found that she would hallucinate from time to time. Or at least she thought she did, the odd things she saw only appeared when she was alone. They could be anything from eyes and mouths on inanimate objects to actual people. There was a particular person that appeared to her the most, and she began to call him The Watcher. He seemed to observe her, often putting her down and negating things she said and believed.
Needless to say, it was a grotesque group she was a prt of, and going beyond surface detail isn’t necessary. Around age sixteen, the cult was shut down for their illegal activities and disbanded. The children were all taken to find them new homes. But even after Ying Yue left, The Watcher was still there.
Ying Yue was adopted by Clement and Elodie Mayfair who recognized the girl had issues but didn’t realize their full extent. The Watcher told Ying Yue that if she didn’t hide her impulses and bad thoughts, they would give her back to The Star Thieves. He told her that they weren’t really gone, and that if they saw how bad she really was she would have to go back. Due to an empathy deficit and low emotional capacity, she didn’t truly love her parents, but she liked them. They were nice and gave her everything she wanted.
Ying Yue took on her parents' last name and her first name was changed to Persephone, with her friends and family usually calling her Persie. She bleached her hair and attended a catholic school where she often mocked their religion and caused problems, so her parents took her to therapy to get to the root of the problem.
Persie was a difficult case, one that they never quite got to the bottom of. The girl was relocated to The Astraeus Institute before much progress could be made.
Skills and Weaknesses
Skills:
Voice Throwing: As if she's not already creepy enough, Persie's a skilled voice thrower and often uses it to freak people out for shits and giggles.
Multilingual: Aside from english, speaks Mandarin, German, and a bit of Japanese.
Fencing: Persie has a lot of experience with sharp objects in general, but also has some training in fencing/sword fighting.
Weaknesses:
Weak: #nomuscles
Masochist: She'll quite willingly put herself in harms way, and tends to push herself past her breaking point.
Fanatical: Persie's not the most stable and makes some pretty ridiculous decisions that can put her in bad situations.
Gifts
Vorpal Sharpness: Persie can control sharpness in any object she touches, either imbuing or taking the quality of sharpness away: sharp edges cut better, while non-edged surfaces, objects, like hands, can be imbued to cut through nearly anything. She can imbue an item as a trap, such as making a doorknob cut anyone who tries to open it, or remove sharpness from things, turning knives and other edged weapons into awkward bludgeons against her.
Physic Voodoo (Empathetic Masochism): Persie can damage or inflict pain on others by inflicting damage upon her own body. Any injury she causes herself will appear on her target at the same time she inflicts it. However, she can only target people who’s blood she’s consumed, and must consume more blood to affect them once a few days have passed. The power is dangerous because in order for it to be effective she must damager her own body pretty severely, so it’s a bad time for both sides.
